A Law That Needs A Change
In this gr- at < ountry of < hi several of the prix Heges g.ven to man are very que^ lonable. One <>f th< which i> put before the ;ub i. ".ee a week in the South Herd Tribune is the filings for ba' kruptcy H >wever. m many rases. this is incomplete as the persons filing are listed, but no further announcement is made pubis' of the results As far as many are concerned, bankruptcy is nothing more than a legal way to steal. A person in financial trouble can be legally relieved nf these obligations if the petition for bankruptcy is allowed. This leaves the creditors out on the limb with very little protection. They can get no more than a mere percentage of what is owed them. Viewing the fil.ngs in the paper, makes one wonder if this law isn't to the point of almost encouraging people to take this action to get out from under their obligations. For instance, in the latest list one individual filing listed debts of $1,525 and assets $750. How many people are this far or much further in debt 1 ? The list would contain more persons than those who would be omitted in many age groups.

Importance were acted upon, maybe not to your individual liking, but cither passed or disposed of in the proper manner. Operating the stale is a parttime business with these men as they meet a couple at months every two years unless something special conies up that involves m extra session How. ever, the ones assuming the responsibility by running for thes< positions, should also be dedicated enough to give their full attention to the matters at hand for those two months With the horseplay and stories that come out of Indianapolis at the end of ea« h • ssion, it was a relief to hear that this wag absent for the 1965 gthenng. May we join those who sav "Thank You", and congratulations for a job well done in 1965.
The instance given above may be one of the more extremes, but nevertheless, the fact remains that many tile for bankruptcy that seem very ridicuxms Those who fUe simply are trying to beat their debts in most instances. Once in awhile, a crisis comes about that does cause the need for such an out. but most of those who fall in this category would later make part of this up if at all possible. Bankruptcy isn’t just peaches and cream for those filing, as they lose everything they pos. sess. However, many have even found ways to get around most of this by eliminating the item of ownerhip on their personal property. This is the same as many var. ious laws, they once were sufficient for their purposes, but n< w are being used to extreme This is due to the fact that credit isuch an easy thing to get now as almost anyone can buy expensive items as automobiles without much of a credit rating This law must either be acted upon strongly by the court hearing the filings, or must be changed to protect a man in business who can’t afford to have such losses in their business.
