Toll Road Crash Kills Walkerton Man December 24 Ernest R. Corner, 55, of Walkerton, was killed in a one-car accident on Thursday, December 21 on the Indiana Toll Road. The accident occured about two miles cast of the Westpoint Toll I’laza at 11:15 am. State Police who investigated the accident, said the car, driven by Russell I). Corner, the deceased's ion, was eastbound on the Toll Road when it veered out of control to the left side of the r ad. The car struck a guard rail and then crashed into a bridge abutment, throwing both men into the back seat ot the car. Corner was pronounced dead on arrival at Methodist hospital in Gary with death being attributed to internal injuries, according to the I^ake C >unty Coroner Russell was also taken to the hospital where he was treated for a knee injury and < uts or. the face and right arm. Mr. Comer was bom in Starke County on June 3. 1910 He was married on July 19. 1929, to Mable Amor in Plymouth She r,wives, along with one daughter, Mrs. Glenn Stahly Walkerton; a son. Russell Walkerton; four grandchildren; and one brother. Arthur, of Ahtanum, Washington. Funeral services were held at 2.00 pm. Mon lay at the Walkerton Presbyterian Church, with Rev. David Owen, pastor, officiating Burial was tn Woodlawn cemetery, Walkerton. Aba M. Barber Alva M. Barber, 87, died Saturday at 5:00 pm in the Parkview hospital, Plymouth, after a dxweok illness.. A lifetime resident of Walkerton, he was bom April 6. 1877 in Walkerton. He was a retired farmer On May 27. 1899. he married Lillie May Barhite, who died in March. 1949. Surviving is one son, Gful of Lakeville; three daughters, Mrs Vern Dipert. Plymouth; Mrs. Chester Sawyers, Indianapolis, and Mrs. Virginia Lemley of Tampa Florida; 17 grandchildren: 10 greatgrandchildren, and eight great-grvat-gran<l<hild'<*n Two children preceded him in death Funeral services were held at 11 30 a m Tuesday in the Johnson Funeral Home. Plymouth with Rev. Homer Kiracofr. pastor of the Church of the Brethren officiating. Burial was tn the Barber Cemetery northwest of Plymouth.

Uillhun Nullum Lawson Funeral services for William Nathan Lawson, 50, of Tucson, Arizona, who died in Tucson December 23. were held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m in the Nusbaum Funeral Home, with Rev. Harold Williams, pasto as the Walkerton Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Mr. Lawson was born Feb. 21, 1914. in Hamlet. He married Dorothy Levcncloski, who survives. Other survivors include his patents. Mr. aixl Mrs. William Lawson. Walkerton; two daughters, Mrs Robert Hartman, Mishawaka ami Rosemary Lawson, of Tucson ;three sons, Lirry, Mu key, and Rollle, all of Tucson; one sister. Mrs. Buella Brennan, Ontario, Calif , and one brother, A. A. laiwson, Mishawaka. Adult Education Classes To Begin In Agriculture Adult Agriculture classes will begin at the Walkerton High School on M nlay. January I at 7:30 p.m. This will tie an organizational meeting. The first of the regular series of meetings will begin on Monday, January 11 with an Agriculture Culture Credit meeting in the agriculture room at the school. Indians Play Oregon Davis Tuesday Night Walkerton’s Imhans will return to the basketball wars Tuesday evening as they visit Knox to do battle with Oregon-Davis. This game will start later for the Walkerton fans as the Starke County Schools are operating on slow' time. The Indians will take a 6-5 record into this game against the team that has bad a.I kinds of trouble this year vfter a very strong year last season However, the O-D club was riddled by graduation.
