N. L. SCHOOL IN BUILDING PLANS
Extended Project To Accomodate Both Schools The North Liberty Schools, of the South Bend Community School Corporation, is scheduled to get a new addition to better serve the two buildings that will be taking on additional students from G:eene Township this coming school year. The including of North Liberty on the plan for next year, was moved up to improve the facilities necessary for the additional students as well as to satisfy the local need which , has been sub-standard for years./ The plan includes a new cafeteria. library, music room, biology laboratory and other facilities. These have been missing from the present school system and are needed to biing the school to the desired standards. At present, no cafeteria is provided as a converted room in the elementary school is used for cooking and the serving is done in the hall. Included in the other facilities are a health suite, speech therapy room, new heating plant, blacktopping and storage epace with necessary equipment. With the start of the 1965-1966 school year, the present Greene high school students will go either to North Liberty or the new Jackson school, and the improvements were approved after many Greene township residents questioned the present facilities at the North Überty School. It has been announced by the School Board, that thia construction will be ready by the start of the 1965-66 school year with the tentative figure for start of construction oming in March. Tentative Cost *370,950 Included in the plans are: Construction of a cafeteria, 6100 aq. ft.; library and language laboratory. 2000 sq. ft.; music room, 2000 sq. ft.; art room, 1500 sq. ft; drafting room, 1000 sq ft.; biology laboratory, 1200 sq. ft.; laundry, 500 aq. ft.; and health, counselors, and speech therapy room, 1200 aq. ft., with hallo and | storage space to consume 2500 sq. ft. This totals 18.300 sq ft. which is to be between the two existing buildings connected to the high school building, but accessible to both schools.

The construction cost is $292,000 with other costa listed as follow's: equipment, $25,000; loose equipment, $30,000; cafeteria, $20,000; and $3,150 for blacktopping. This makes the total cost of this project $370,950. The addition and expansion program of the present facilities will make more room available in both school buildings to accomodate the students that will be attending North Liberty next school year. In addition to loan “Farmers Bank and Trust C 0.,” Knox. Indiana, will make a loan of $140,000.00 and Starke Co. Development Corp., will invest $70,000.00 and Arrowhead Engineering will put up $35,000.00 towards the project. In addition to providing $115,000.00 in working capital.
