Miss Myrlynn Dixon and Mrs. Robert Udy will honor Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Dixon on their 25th wetlding anniversary with open house at the Walkerton Community Building Sunday. November 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. No invitations have been sent. Mr. and Mrs. Dixon were married November 4, 1939. in Louisville, Kentucky. They have one daughter, Myrlynn The Dixons reside at 64339 Liberty Highway. North Liberty, Ind. Girl Scout News Girl Scout Troop 177 has been very busy. Recently they attended a Hootenanny and cook out combined at Stuntz Pine Forest. There were 79 scouts of all ages from Walkerton and Hamlet who participated Our troop served as hospitality troop at the cookout For the Hootenany we had our own "Hillbilly Band” and a set of square, dancers, all members of our troop. Last week we had another fun. fest, a masquerade Halloween party. Games were provided by Linda Boone, Susan Sokol, Marianne Kersh and a stunt and fortune game by Ginny De Simone. Rest dressed masquemdera prizes went to Mrs Noil D*>wney and Marianne Kersh. UNICEF Drive Nets .5149.50 In Walkerton The youth from the E U. B. (’hurch of Walkerton met with the MYF groups of the Methodist (’hurch of Walkerton Sunday evening. October 25th and collected $149.50 with ‘‘Trick or Treat" for UNICEF. This money goes to help needy children throughout the world. The youth would like to express their thanks to all of those who responded in behalf of this worthy appeal After their collection, they met at the Methodist Church parsonage for a party for the youth groups Adult counselors were Mrs Stanley Tuttle. Education Week To Be Marked By Interesting Program American Education Week. November 8-14, is the nation’s tribute to education. It is an excellent opportunity for the public to learn more about their schools. Tne theme this year is "Education Pays Dividends " A great variety of programs is being planned by many school systems and professional organizations. There will be radio and television presentations, newspaper coverage, and programs within the schools and communities. The Walkerton High School will present a special program on Tuesday evening. November io. in the high school gym, starting at 7:30. The program will open with selections by the high school chorus, followed by a public induction service for new members to the National Honor Society. After the program, open house will be observed, thus allowing the public to visit with teachers and inspect the building. The educational system in a democracy is our most important institution. Education can mean financial and socal success for an individual. Education provides the means by which an individual can improve himself. If he has the ability, be has the opportunity to carry on his education and become a professional or enter other desirable occupations. Parents and other adults have a responsibility to all children. The schools must offer quality education designed to meet the needs of each child. Second rate schools are detrimental to the interests of students, adults and the nation Any talent which is not developed, is a waste of our most Important resource. People are the backbone of our society. American Education Week should not only be directed at parents, hut to all adults Everyone -hould join in the programs to find out what is happening in

the schools. Naturally, an individual could not possibly obtain all the necessary information in or.e week. Ths shoud be the beginning of new Interest. Consider this week as an opport unity to begin visiting and attending school programs. The high school staff is offering this program as a means of informing - the community in t; ■ activities of the school and the programs offered the youth that they may be prepared to meet the challenges of hfe after graduation. A social hour will follow the program. There is no admission and the entire public is cordially invited.
