O.E.S. Honors Rainbow Girls The Walkerton Rainbow Ansembly No. 64 members were honored Tuesday evening, Sept. 15th, at the meeting of Eastern Star Chapter 319, at the chapter s regular meeting. Following the ritualistic opening. the chapter was declared at ease and Mrs. Robert Lady. Mo fiver Advisor, Miss Laura Jo Thornburg, Worthy Advisor, and sixteen girls, were escorted into the chapter room. Mra^Lidy and Miss Thornburg were seated in the east where Mrs. Alfred Drews, Worthy Matixm, presented them and read a poem in their honor. Mrs. McCombs sang a parody to “You Were Meant For Me” to the honored guests. The O. E. S. Bible Ceremony was given for the pleasure of the guests, after which Grover Oplinger showed colored slides -of several Rainbow yeceptione, installations and parties. Mrs. Udy thanked the chapter fur the uiviLaUen extended to th* assembly and gave a resume of the accomplishments of the girts during the past year Miss Thornburg introduced the girls present ami presented to the chapter a white handmade Unen table cloth with emblematic crocheted medallions. a gift from the assembly, and made by “Mom” Lidy. The girls gave their clotring prayer song before retiring to
the dining room for refreshments. Chapter meeting was resumed and business conducted. Birthdays honored were those of Mrs. PhiLlip Waldron Sr., Mrs. Edward Petersen and Mrs. Louis Daube. The charter W’as draped and memorial was read for two Past Worthy Grand Matrons, of the Indiana Grand Chapter, Mrs. Ixmise Wolfe, Peru, and Mrs. Daisy M. Crist of Crawfordsville. Mrs. Drew’s announced that Sunday, Scpt embe r 20, was Masonic Day at the Indiana Masonic Home tn Franklin. The program will begin at 1 p.m. Guests introduced were Mrs. Florence Peak, Mrs Helen Smith and Mrs. Edith Kuhlwein, members of Chicago chapters, and Mr. arid Mrs. James Wolfe, of the North Liberty chapter. A social hour and refreshments wen* enjoyed in the dining room. The tables and the chapter room were decorated with fresh garden flowers. Hostesses were Mr. and Mrs. Art Grote, Mr. and Mrs. William Steinwald and Mr and Mrs. A J. Daniels. Community Club Hears Program On “Heirloom Glass” Yellow and white glads with baby yellow mtims centered the tea table at the meeting of the Walkerton Women’s Community Club Friday afternoon. Hostesses were Mrs Clyle Walz, Mrs. Ethel Hudelmyer and Mrs Clarabelte Rogers. Twenty-seven members and two guests, Mrs. Axel Pearson, Chicago, and Mrs. Dniin Her bold, route 3, Walkerton, answered roll call when the meeting was called to order at 2 p.m. Mrs William Kuhlwein presented the devotions. Mrs Gus Verkier, program chairman, presented Mrs. Chester Newman, South Bend, who spoke on "American Heirloom Glass” She impressed her listeners with the fact that the pulse of the nation is ’'melted into glassware. She stated and had glassware to prove it. that all commemorative glass has great historical value and tells the story of the era. Many unusual and interesting pieces on display were coin, Jennie Lind, Flint, Actress, early Alaskan and Civil War time glass ware. Many of the members brought their favorite piece of glass and told what it was for roil call. The next meeting October 2. the club will motor to the Sangrelea Home for Boys at Onward, Indiana, for their meeting and lunch. This home is sponsored by the Indiana Federation of Women’s Clubs.
