Defense Paces Shamrocks Win Over Three Oaks Last Saturday
North Liberty’s Shamrocks won their second game in three starts Saturday when they topped the Three Oaks "Oakers" 22-0 in a defensive game. North Liberty's defense was very outstanding as they held Three Oaks to a mmu.three yards on the ground and only 30 in the air. To add to this impressive record, they scored three of the four scores for the Shamrocks in the game. N. Liberty Statistics T. North Liberty opened the scoring as the defensive team tallied the first touchdown as tackle Mike Knepp intelccpted a pitchout and ran 60 yards unmolested into the end zone tor the TD. Hari Shafer ran the extra point, giving the Shamrocks a lead that was never setv iously threatened. The Shamrocks made it 11-0 be fore halftime as again it was the defense accounting for the score. Jim Lambert picked up a lost Three Oaks ball and ran 50 yards for the second TD. Jack Jackson ran this extra point. The offensive team finally marched for a score in the third period with Shafer going the final five yards. The try for point was missed. The final scoring of the night came in the last period
when a host of Shamrock tacklers swarmed all over the Oakers' quarterback, Gene Bolin, in the i end zone. This two points made the score 22-0. which it remained. , The statistics bear out that the defense was good as the Shamrocks didn't pile up a large , amount of yards. Jack Jackson was the leading ground gainer ( with only 32 yards in seven car- । ries. Shafer had 27 yards, Tim I Hughes 23 aid Ron Petei son 21 yards. Passing, Peterson threw seven times and c impleted 1 for 30 yards. The leading tacklers were Bob Cain, Shafer and Jackson, with , several boys having five tackles in this game.
