NEWS NFO has now c ompleted four and one half weeks of the holding action, it is evident that NFO people don’t intend to slacken their efforts until this goal is ! accompli hed. For the first time the admis- ‘ sion that the NFO holding action is having an effect, is coming from those opposing our efforts. Buyers are in the country desperately trying to got livestock, by telling farmers that the hold is over and doing everything possible to get livestock shipped We are getting very close to winning with no thought of calling it off. Processors are signing contracts and many more are ready to negotiate. NFO farmers have been contacting livestock farmers all over the mid-west, asking them to join the NFO and support their efforts. A. few say that our asking prices are too high. We did not pull these prices out of a hat. A group of farmers from different parts of the mid. west, got together and put facts and figures on the table, and decided we must have these prices to covei cost of production plus a fair profit. There is no country in the world where food is so cheap. Only Ik per cent of the take home pay is spent on £ood It isn’t the high cost of living that’s effecting this country, it’s the cost of high living! Some people seem to forget that the farmer is a consumer too In fact, he not only has to buy for his own family, but also the cost of producing and feeding 2S other people. The livestock in your feedlots is your power to price your production. Mr. Farmer. The livestock you sell is your surrender! Remember, we can not collective, ly bargain for a price for you unless you join with vs. The members of the NFO have been subjected to all kinds of malicious gossip in the past fom weeks. hard to better agriculture as a whole, how can fellow Americans resort to such tactics that they know in their own minds before they even repeat it, isn’t so? Nowhere in any walk of life can there bo found more dedication, more determination and willlngness to push ahead, as the fellow members of the NFO.
