Dinner And Trip To State Fair Honors 4-H’ers A grand finale to this y»ars <l-11 program was a bus trip t the Indiana State Fair on 111 y Thur.-day. Sept. 3. when s xty members and chaperones were treated with th< ;r bus fare and tickets for completing projects in 4-H here. On Saturday, the 4-H achievement dinner was staged at the high school with many prizes and trophies awarded to outstanding members. Grant Houser acted as master of cermonies to introduce the program of the evening. Following a cooperative supper. Commander of the American I» gior>; Ray Kaminski, president of the Lions Club, and Robert Hiler, representing the Chamber of Commerce, all clubs who donated funds for the 4-H program here. Clubs honored but unable to be present were American I^egion Auxiliary. Better Homes Demonstration Club. Business and Professional Women's Club. Parent Teacher's Association and Yorktown Home Demonstration Club. Miss Jane Patterson and Thomas Welch. Girls and Boy’s 4-H leaders here, presented bronze pins to each first thru fourth year member and a gold pin to all five year members up. Each township champion in girls projects received a medal. All first year members received a sign. All outstanding junior leaders

who recnive a grade of A for good work, will receive a junior leader jacket. This year there were three, Carol Tuttle, Jackie Tuttle ami Theresa Schmeltz. Each year the outstanding junior leader will receive a Schaeffer pen and pencil set. This year it was Theresa Schmeltz. The trophy program was put into action with a trophy designated for Grand Champion in livestock ad projects. It was agreed this year to add a smaller trophy for reserve champion. They are James Hartsough who won Grand Champion Foods II for his butter cake; Virginia Wray for equisition riding, and Mary Wray for showing grand champion filly, Beverly Welch was awarded a trophy for reserve champion horse and pony, and Wayne Bellinger for a reserve champion cross bred barrow. A trophy is awarded any one person who achieves three or more blue ribbons. They are Laura and Carol Tuttle, each three blues, and Mark Malstaff, three blues and a Twp. Champion. Miss Janiece Helm served half way during the 4-H year as the leader, anti was also a member of the Better Homes Demonstration Club. She represented Mrs. Thomas Anspaugh of the Better Homie Club to award the annual gifts they present and to the king and queen, who are Don Swanson and Theresa Schmeltz. who received a sterling silver charm bracelet engraved as queen, and a sterling silver pen krxfe engraved as king. A prize of $lO and $5 were awarded to the top salesmen of the July 4th project. Winners were announced as I>aura Tuttle, first, Mike MaLtaff. second. Winners in participation points which members receive for attending meetings, participating in demonstrations, talent shows, speeches, serving on committees, offices, etc., were as follows: Carol and Isaura Tuttle, arxl Roberta Van Dyke, first, second and third in the Girls Club: Mark Malstaff, Mike Westhues and Don Swanson, first, second and third in the boys' club. Is Accepted For I. U. School Os Dentistry A more than capacity first year class of 92 students has been accepted for admission to the Indiana University School of Dentistry in Indianapolis and will report for an orientation program Sept. 17,, it was announced today by Dr. Maynard K. Hine, dental school dean. Classes begin Sept. 21. The dean pointed out that for the past four years, a beginning class of 90 students has been selected for the four-year study of dentistry. This year’s class of 92 is the largest ever accepted. All have had three to four years of college work, and have been selected on the basis of scholastic records and personal interviews.
