young players are brought up to finish the season with the parent club and allow the managers t<> take a look at future prospects, but usually in the case of games with contenders, the regulars are Used in games that have a definite faring on the flag race. IN THE TORRID AMERICAN league battle the White Scat have a slight edge in games played with teams other than the contenders as they hsve_ really pounded lumps on some of the lower clubs The Orioles have a bitter record than the Yanks against the lotver teams, just slightly behind the Sox. clubs. THE WHITE SOX M EE T the league leading Orioles again this week end in Baltimoie in a series that could really drop the Sox down if they aren’t more successful than they were this past week end. Baltimore has had some injuries that have hint but have managed to bounce back and bring up some players this season that have supplied some added punch when needed. THE Y A N K E E S HAVE found out that they definitely need Mantle in the line up if they are going to win. With Mickey continually nursing injuries and Ford missing several turns because of minor injury, the Yanks just aren’t the Yanks. The shades of Bauer, Skowron. Bena and a few others from years past just aren't replaced with men that are playing now. Roger Maris hasn’t done too much since his one big year and unless the clutch plays are made again by the Bronx Bombers, they just won’t catch up this year. If they don’t win. you can look for same swapping of players this winter until they secure some more dependable players that will produce in the clutch. THE PHILLIES OF THE NAtional league have really opened a gap to almost make it a run away after a tight race foi three fourths of the sea son. Their balance and pitching have made them leaders by a good margin and they look to be in unless a complete collapse comes about. The Giants again have faded, as only the great Willie Mays even keeps them up. They have suffered too much by injuries this year, but lacked steady performances by many of their so-called stars to hamper them all year.
