There were 16 boys and ten girls who received their certificates and the winning boy and girl trophy Wednesday at the Awards Night. In High School Baseball, New Carlisle won the St. Joe Valley Baseball Conference and most of the individual awards. Brown, their pitcher, was named most valuable player. Scott, their catcher, had the highest batting average, hitting over .500. They also placed 4 men on the league all-star team. Ron Peterson of North Liberty was selected as the all-star team’s 3rd baseman. He hit .379 for the summer and hit near .500 in the games other than New Carlisle. He went 1 for 7 against Brown of New Carlisle. Penn placed three men and Lakeville 2 on the all-star team. Madison failed to place any on the team. Penn finished 2nd, North Liberty 3rd. Lakeville 4th, Madison sth. North Liberty and a good showing at the Handicraft Exhibit in South Bend last week. Those winning awards were Mary Beckwith, 2nd in tile painting. J met Anderson 3rd place in wood tapping, and Nancy Beckwith honorable mention for reed weaving.
