TWO-TRUCK CRASH KILLS LOCAL MAN
N. L. Sammer Recreation Program • On Tuesday, the All Stars made up of stars from the Lakers and the Celtics, beat the stars -from the Hawks and Pistons 6169. The game had an abrupt 'change in the last quarter when the L-C stars came from a 45-26 deficit to eek out the win. Fouls were plentiful as the winners lost two players and the losers three. Scoring for the L-C stars were: Bob Lappin 16; Dennie Clark 15; Chris Anderson 10; Tim Menefee and Joe Fisher 8; and Bruce Summerfield 4. For the H-P stars, the scoring went: Bill Albert 24; Kevin Hostetler and Barry Hughes 12. and Greg Groves 11. Wednesday the L-C stars edged the H-P stars by the same 61-59 score. 11118 game was close all the way with the lead changing hands several times. The scoring for the L-C stars was as follwos: Chris Anderson 19; Bruce Summerfield and Bob Lappin 14; Mike Newcomer 7; Joe Fisher 5; and Tim Menefee 2. The H-P stars scoring went: Bill Albert 20; Kevin Hosttier 14; Barry Hughes and Marty Shupert 10; Kenny Ross 3; and Greg Groves 2. In the major baseball league, the series opened with the Twins downing the A’s 12 to two in four innings. The A's only hit off Ricky Luke came when Jim Fair belted a single in the 4th inning. Meanwhile, the Twins were pounding the A’s pitching for eight hits. Luke. Chris Anderson and Bruce Summerfield each had two hits. Tuesday, the White Sox earned the right to meet the Twins in the finals by defeating the Phillies 7-6 in an exciting game. The Phils were down by one run in the sth with two on and one out, but Bill Albert retired the next two batters on strikes to preserve the win for the Sox. Marty Shupert, Greg Groves. John Whitmer and Darwin Hostetler each got a hit for the Phillies, while Bill Albert. David Gensinger and Kenny Ross got a safety apiece for the Sox. The finals went down to the last out before the Twins downed the Sok .9-7 With the Sox batting in the bottom of the sth, bases loaded and two out. Chris Anderson struck out the final Sox batter to win the Series Championship. Bruce Summerfield and Ricky Luke provided the hitting power for the Twins with two hits each. A helpful double from Roland Vincent rounded out the scoring for the Twins. Kenny Ross had two doubles and Dennie O'Connor two singles for the Sox. The win gave the Twins a sweep of the league and Series Championship. Their overall record was 12 and 2. The minor league ended its regular season in a tie between the Cubs and Braves. The Cubs showed comeback power as they whipped the Braves 2 out of 3 games for the championship. North Liberty finished in 4th place in the South Bend Community boys track met and 4th place in the overall totals of boys and girls. There were 40 parks participating. Trobaugh - Menges Miss Terrie Lee Trobaugh. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Trobaugh of North Liberty, and James Roger Menges, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Menges of Michigan City, exchanged marriage vows in a 3:30 p.m. ceremony Saturday in the Church of the Brethren, North Liberty, with Rev. A. P. Wenger, officiating. Mrs. Ear) Lein ba ch provided nuptial music in the church which was decorated with baskets of white gladioli, palms and candelabra. White satin bows marked the pews. Miss Janice Lappin, of North Liberty was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Sandra Fletcher of Milford, Ohio; Miss Susan Eisert, Wilmette. 111., and Miss Karen Connoway of North Liberty. Larry Perry of Covington, Ind., was best man. Seating guests were Bruno Canzlan of Indianapolis: Terry Westphal and Donald Johnson, both of Michigan City, and Kent Castle, of Lakewood. Calif. The bride chose a gown of organza over taffeta and re-em-broidered Alencon lace styled with a fitted bodice, scalloped neckline, elbow-length sleeves, and a bouffant skirt with unpressed pleats which fell into a chapel train. Re-embroidered Alencon lace and seed pearls formed the scalloped neckline and skirt of the gown. Covered buttons marked the back. A headpiece of flowers of Alencon lace and aurora crystals with crystal drops, held a baller-ina-length veil of English silk illusion. She carried a crescent bouquet of white glamellias. The bridal attendants wore street-length dresses of gold silk brocade styled with fitted bod(Continued on page 16)

Donald H. Allen Is Ghio Crash Victim A two-truck accident Monday night at Napoleon. Ohio, took the lite of Donald H. Allen. 41, of 506 Illinois Street, Walkerton. Allen died of a fractured skull and multiple internal injuries in Heller Memorial hospital at 12:14 a. m. Tuesday, following the accident at 10:30 p.m. Monday. City police at Napoleon, who investigated the accident, said Alien’s empty trailer zig-zagged on the wet pavement causing his truck to jack-knife and slide across the road into the path of another semi-trailer hauling beef cattle. The second truck was driven by Earl C. Hall, 36, of Rochester, Ind., driving for the Nelson Trucking Co. of Burket, Ind. Allen drove for the Hinchcliff Motor Lines of Chicago. Hall was taken to the hospital and released after treatment for cuts and bruises. Allen was born on August 23, 1923, in Chicago to Harry and Zoa Allen. He was married February 14, 1948, at Crown Point to Geneva Salyer, who survives. Other survivors are two daughters. Karen and Donna, two sons, David and Mark, all at home; two sisters, Mrs. Jean Work, of Evergreen Park. 111., and Mrs. Marian Simpson. Naperville, 111. He was a veteran of World War 11. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Walkerton Methodist Church, Rev. Harold Williams officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Walkerton. Friends may call at the Nusbaum Funeral Home until noon Thursday and at the church from 1:00 p.m. until time of the services. Chamber To Meet The Walkerton Chamber of Commerce is meeting today (Thursday) at Heil’s Dining room for their regular monthly meeting. Two very important items will be discussed, one the possibility of a credit bureau in Walkerton, and the other, discussion on the possibilities of a public swimming pool for the future. The luncheon starts promptly at noon. Football Boosters To Meet Monday The Football Boosters of North Liberty, held their meeting July 20th. Some new equipment was ordered for the boys. Bob Jackson is membership chairman. Mrs. Jean Clark is in charge of the refreshment stand; Bob Cain, sock hop chairman. Booster tickets are on sale for SI.OO each. The next meeting is August 17 at 8:00 at the high school Everyone come. Student* To Pay Book Rental Before Sept. 1 The Walkerton High School students and eighth grade as well are informed that they can pay their book rental for the coming school year at the high school beginning Tuesday, August 18. This is payable in the Library and must be paid prior to September 1.
