OES Hosts Matrons & Patrons Os District 20 “Hawaiian Holiday” was the theme of the evening, when the \Valkerton Chapter, Order of the Eastern Shar, were host to the matrons and patrons of the Eastern Star District twenty, Friday evening, June 26, at the Masonic Temple One hundred fifty persons registered in spite of the warm weather. Greeters were Mrs. Leßoy Smith and George Parks, matron and patron, junior past. Following the opening of chapter, Mm Alfred Drews, worthy matron, gave a Hawaiian greeting. Mns. Ray Oberly, of Bremen, Grand Adali of the Indiana Grand Chapter, was escorted to the east after Mrs. Kenneth Klinedin*. sang “How Great Thou Art” in her honor. Mra. Drews presented her to the membership and placed a blue lei with a gift

Mrs. Dale Dolan, Plymouth, deputy of district 20, was escorted to the west where Mrs. Charlie Steinke, Walkerton, presented her with a wristlet of flowers and escorted her to the east after Mrs. William Heim Jr. .sang “Mary is a Grand Old Name” to her. Mrs. Drews presented her from the East and spoke words of greeting in verse to her. The escorts for the two above women served as matrons of their respective chapters the years Mrs. Oberly and Mi*s.. Dolan . served their chapters. . Other distinguished guests introduced were Mrs. Bruce -Myers. Elkhart, and Earl Dudley, Rolling Prairie, grand committee members; Mrs. Dudley, grand repre-. .tentative to Montana and- Mrs. Chris Kammerer, Leesburg. Ind., grand representative to Manitova. The special guests who call . themselves the Jacks and Jills
were introduced. Twenty-three of the 26 chapters in the district were represented. A short recognition in verse was given the matrons and patrons by the matron and patron, associate matron, marshal and star points. Mrs. Oberly spoke briefly, using Faith, Hope and Charity as a must in our lives for peace' and happiness. She thanked the chapter for courtesies extended her, Mrs. Dolan reviewed some of the changes made by the worthy grand matron, to assist chapters who are having inspection in the near future. She also tlianked the chapter for her invitation and courtesies. Happy Birthday was sung to Mrs. Dudley. Mrs. Drews closed with a poem “Aloha.” Before the officers retired, Mrs. John McCombs sang a parody to “Blue Skies of Hawaii.” accompanied by Mrs. Nelson Walz. Mrs. David Mellin protemed in

the station of Martha and Mrs. < John Graverson of Bremen chapter y.rotemed as ward'". Chicken salad, wafers, relishes, coffee and iced tea were served to the guests. The tables were decorated in the Hawaiian motif, clever nutcups with a palm tree attached were at each place. Gifts for the honor guests were at their places. A large Hawaiian hand painted screen, flanked 1 by twd palm trees, was at one end of the reception room. Shells, ' leis, flowers, accented the theme of the evening. The guests were entertained during the social hour by the I Hamlet Kitchen Kats Kitchen I Band, consisting of nine women in costume, complete with whis- > kers and tails. They added to the I Hawaiian theme with skirts made of newspaper strips. Chapters represented were Bre- • men, Bourbon, Bristol, Culver, Goshen. Milford. Carlisle, North Liberty, Pierceton, Plymouth, South Bend St. Joseph South Bend Rose Croix, South Bend No. 2, Osceola, Syracuse, Hammond, Rolling Prairie, and Walkerton. Hostesses for the refreshments were Mrs. Minnie Mikesell. Mrs. Mary Bauer, Mrs. Edna Wolf, Mrs. Forest Stahly, Mrs. W'alter Denaut, Mrs. Hazel Borden. Mrs. James Martin, Mrs. Elsie Johnson and Mrs. Percy Selkirk. The decorating committee was Mrs. Robert Sills, Mrs. Waitei Jackson, Mrs. Francis Gindelberger and Mrs. Orville Klinedinst.
