Joint Installation Seats New Officers Os American Legion And Auxiliary
The American Legion and its Auxiliary held joint installation ceremonies Saturday night at the post Home. Charles Roth was installed as commander of the Legion and Mrs. Sam Downey, of Plymouth, president of the Auxiliary here. The installation team from Post 50 in South Bend installed the Ix gion officers, and Mrs. Edward Hollinger, of Plymouth, installed her daughter as president: another daughter, Mrs. Wm. Flaugher. Richard Verkier, chaplain; Charles Wooley, historian, and Delmar DePoy, Bgt.-at-arms. Legion executive board includes Fred Fitzke, Linder Schmeltz, John Petersen. Auxiliary executive board members are Mrs. Emery Flaugher, Mrs. Howard
Personette, and Mrs. Linder Schmeltz. ( Legion men elected as delegates to the Department Convention are Roth, Flaugher, Clark and Klopfensein, with alternates DePov, Miller, Groves and Petersen. Mrs. John Groves and Mrs. A. J. Kennedy will be delegates to the Auxiliary Department convention with alternates, Mrs. Sam Downey and Mrs. Robert Wardman. Richard Verkier, commander of the post the past two years, welcomed the gathering and introduced distinguished guests. They Included Joseph Bisdeak, Third District Commander, South Bend, and Mrs. Bisdeak and other district officials. Area Legion commanders present included Robert Craig, pivmowth post; Harry Stoneburner. North Liberty, and William Kovaths, South Bend Po^t 50. Commander Roth announced his committees for the year as follows; Richard Verkier, Americanism: Fred Fitzke. bowling; Roth, Boy Scouts; Schmeltz. ceremonial; Klopfenstein. Bovs State and child welfare; James Verkier. Civil Defense: K'cn fen stein, community service: William Flaugher, oountrv subversive; Willard Baker ^o’f- F<<-hnrd Verkier, educational activities and Son of the Legion; John Powell, iunior bic“Schmeltz. patriotic activities; and Robert Wardman, budding committee. Mrs. John Groves, retiring president, reviewed the past years activities and announced that Mrs. William Flaugher was elected treacuner of the Third District Auxiliary last Wednesday at Michigan Citv. Also, she related that Mark Mahstaff. son of the Harrv Malataffa placed first in the District ponnv poster contest In division 1. and will be entered in department competition. lovely wall clock and the past president's parley also gave her a gift. The unit presented the new president, Mrs. Downey, a gift. Past Commander Verkier presented his past officers each a Legion lighter in the closing ceremonies. A delicious lunch was served by Mrs. Groves and Mrs. Richard Verkier. The Legion had presented each of the women present a fresh carnation corsage as they arrived. : Cub Scouts To Meet For Wiener Roast June 27 A wiener roast will be staged by the Cub Scouts on Saturday, June 27th, at Stuntz Pine Forest at 6 p.m. Highlight of the evening will be a Pinewood derhv contest when the winning car will be awarded a trophy. A preliminary race was held at the Mav meeting at the Walkerton Youth Building when Roger Schmelz’s car won the trial race was the car belonging to Miko Klopfenstein. The tmnhv for the best display was awarded to Den 6, the attendanee banner to Den 1. with second in attendance to Den 3. Awards were presented tn Gordon Hartsell snd Kenneth Hartsell, one gold arrow under wolfe: Loren Capek, one silver arrow under wo’f and Ronnie Niewander, a wolfe badge.
