“Gripe Night” Is Instructive Meeting For All The Walkerton Chamber of Commerce’s "Gripe Night" proved to be a very informative meeting with only a small turn out of 23 present last Thursday night. Four members of the Walkerton Town Board were present at the meeting and some very interesting discussions were held by tho entire group. R. N. "Nick" LaFeber presided •ver the meeting in the absence •f the president and explained the objective of the meeting. Everyone had a chance to voice their opinion of any subject concerning Walkerton, and some very •onstructive Ideas stemmed from these talks The next regular meeting of the Chamber will be Thursday. July 10, at noon again, as the group is not dropping their meetings during the summer months. Little League Dance June 27 A benefit dance for the Walkerton Little League will be held on Saturday, June 27, at the Walkerton American Leg! on Bost as this annual fund-raising dance is alway instrumental in raising the funds for the Walkerton Little League. Donation is SI.OO and music for dancing will be furnished by "The Dixie Kats." plan now to attend on this night

N. I, OES Holds Initiations The North Liberty Chapter of OES, held initiation June 9, for two candidates, Mrs. Sarah Wolfe and Miss Susan Wolfe, mother and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. John McCombs, Associate Matron and Patron of Walkerton GES, were guests at the meeting. A social hour was held after the initiation. Liberty Twp. 4-H The People’s Personality 4-H Club had their first meeting Tuesday, June 9th. Officers were elected as follows: president. Penny Alward; vice president, Joy Holmes; secretary', Susan Sokol; recreation leader, Patty Kotal. , We were all off to a good start. Our next meeting will be held on June 23. Social Security Literature In Post Office A literature rack filled with Social Security information has been placed in the Walkerton Post Office. This contains much Information about Social Security and is there for the people to use. The Social Security Office is grateful to Postmaster Arthur Shirley for his cooperation in making this Information a variable to the public.
4-H Award Fund Grows The 4-H Advisory Board of the Lincoln Township Boys and Girls 4-JI Clubs co-ordinated thoir plans for the season with the incoming 4-H leaders and retiring 4-H leaders Thursday night at the high school. Tom Welch was introduced as the new* boys leader to replace Hanold Matteson who left this week for the University of Wisconsin to work on his doctorate in agriculture education on a research scholarship. Mi^s Janiece Helm, home economics teacher here, is attending summer school/ at Purdue University towards the advancement of her masters degree. Miss Jane Patterson, Tyner, is tho girls’ leader in h^r absence. Tho two phase award system was thoroughly discussed by the committee and agreed to put into action as carefully planned the past year. The new system to grant three prizes to the three top boys, and three top girls in participation of the 4-H Club (first phase) and to grant trophies, pins and jackets for honors received and achievements earned (second phase). These prizes will be awarded at the annual achievement dinner following tho St. Joseph County Fair. The 4-H Advisory* committee report their drive to raise funds for their project is growing with the $25.00 donation from the P.T.A.. $15.00 from the American Legion; and $74.00 from the Bet-

The local Chamber of Commerce has pledged $25.00, and With the donation from the Lions Club who launched the drive, the Business and Professional Women and Yorktown Home Demonstration Club, the funds stand at $194.00. All dubs participating will bo invited to attend the Achievement dinner following the 4-H Fair. It is hoped more club® will recognize this as a worthy project to honor the 104 4-H members active in Lincoln Township.
