THE NATIONAL LEAGUE IS still a whale of a race and it looks like it will be all year. The Philllies and Giants have been taking turns in first place and the tightness of the league is shown by the fact that the ninth place team is only a matter of six or seven games behind on most occasions. One big disappointment has been the St. Louis Cardinals who many thought were the team that had the best chance to succeed the Dißigors as pennant winners. However, the Cards aren't doing anything right and Monday night they made it 19 losses in

their last 25 games as they fell again to Houston, THE CARDS HAVE A strong infield there is no doubt, but you find a pennant potential outfield on that club and you’re doing better than anyone else can do. The Phillies are still banking on strong pitching as they continue to get that good game out of most of their starters. The Giants aren’t kicking up as loud as they were, but with the potenial they have, never count them out. BOTH LEAGUES PROMISE good races as there are several teams that are playing very good ball. It is the time of the year now when the name players are beginning to come into their own after slower starts. Just to prove this, take a batting average list of three or four weeks ago and then compare it to one this week
