Finally! Have you noticed the new face Indiana 23 is getting from US. 6 in Walkerton, south to the Starke County Line? Well, it is being done and to say the least, is moat welcome. For years and years such action has been demanded by the people of this area without much success. Now. the program seems to be going backwards, but nevertheless, we will take what we can get. The original plan for State Road 23 was for the Mayflower Road to North Liberty section in the 1963-1965 period, which also has been promised and a hearing held in this behalf. Then from 1965-1967. the North Liberty to Walkerton stretch was to be done, which also has been promised - and covered in the same hearing. Then way off in the future was the Walkerton to Starke

FINALLY!

County line section which is now being resurfaced. It seems that last fall. sls million was found in Indianapolis somewhere for Roads and this was put into work right away with the 23 ■action south of Walkerton getting in this plan. Even though this is just resurfacing where future plans for 23 call for widening, building a wide berm and straigtening some of the bad curves, the resurfacing is most welcome. At the hearing several weeks ago in North Liberty, it was stated that the possibility of resurfacing of 23 from Walkerton to North Liberty on a temporary basis, was being considered for this summer to ease the shock of this rough stretch until the permanent work can be done. We will sit with our fingers crossed, hoping for this as well as the action we are now getting. •

- ¥ '. It is unfortunate that not all Americans show proper respect for the flag. Not all Americans appreciate their blessings. To refuse to join in the pledge of allegiance is a ‘sobering show of ignorance and apathy about what America means. Flag Day will suggest many thoughts about the character and ideals of our country. It is a good day for seriously examining our individual concepts of America, for measuring our performance against America's promise. ' ’ * Let us display the flag with care and pride. Let us encourage others especially the children of our communities to view the flag with a pride founded upon reason and understanding of the great national purpose R heralds. /
