Asks To Dissolve 0-D School District A ten member delegation from Oregon Township met with the Starke County School Reorganization Committee recently and asked for a public hearing for •he citizens of Oregon Township in an effort to express their desires in the future of school reorganization. Davis Metropolitan School District a year of trial and it was decided that it is not working. They enlarged on this to the extent of no improvement in the curriculum, that the combined district is below state standards, and that the overcrowded situation is not being aided at all. Together, the townships, even with a new school, would only be putting 450 students in the upper six grades and proportionately less in the upper four. Other facts and figures were given as further I reasons for dissolving the school corporation. It was also stated by the group that they have been assured by the Polk-Lincaln-John-son School Corporation would
welcome Oregon Township and that the Knox Community School system would welcome Davis township. It was brought out that the secretary of the state school reorganization commission, J. B. Kohlmeyer, has verbally agreed to attend the hearing. He plays an important part in accepting or rejecting any plans for reorganization in Indiana. Debts Os The PLJ School Corp. Are Explained When other school corporations are considering the possibility of joining the Polk-Lincoln-Johnson School Corporalion. the first question asked is the financial status of our corporation. In order to clear up the question in the minds of all interested people, these facts are given for your information. I am picking July 1, 1965, for my statement, since that is the time for this corporation to assume the obligation of Civil Bonds, and this years taxes collected for bonds has been used. On July 1. 1965, we will owe $162,000 to Veteran’s Memorial School Construction Fund. This is paid off at the rate of $12,000 per vear with the last payment on July 1. 1979. July 1. 1965, we will owe $5.3000 of School Bonds which are being paid at the rate of $6,000 per year and the last payment will be made January 1, 1975. July X 1965, we will assume $53,000 of Civil Bonds which are being paid for at the rate of $6,000 per year and the final payment will be made January 1. 1975. This means a 22 cent levy until January 1, 1975,

At the present time we are receiving from the state over SB,OOO per year earmarked for the reduction of debt which means the levy will be reduced by eight cents. This will make our debt at about lid or 15 cents per SIOO for the payment of our debt. The total debt July 1, 1965: Veterans Memorial Fund $162,0OO: School Bonds $53,000, and Civil Bonds $53,000, making a total balance of $268,000. We now have a Cumulative Building Fund balance of $46,179,91, Claude V. York Superintendent of Schools Alumni Reservations Are Due Now! The Walkerton Alumni Banquet reservations arc due now, as the committees are completing their plans for the annual banquet and dance to be held Saturday. June 6. at 7:00 p.m. at the Walkerton High School. Cards have been mailed and if any member who has taken initiation hasn't received one, contact the committee in charge with Ken Gillies as chairman. A record crowd is expected and you won’t want to miss the meeting of old friends and classmates again as well a^ an evening’s entertainment. Seniors’ parents are invited, but must also have reservations and pay the $2.50 per person. LICENSE BRANCH TO BE CLOSED MEMORIAL DAY The Walkerton License Branch will be closed all day Saturday.
