Hearing Was Well Worth The Time
The hearing last Thursday on Indiana 23 was a very well conducted meeting under the direction of Oral "raig of the State Highway Commission. The purpose of the meeting was to mform the public of the present plans and to got responses from the public supporting this program for the purpose of gaining federal aid in the million dollai project. After introducing himself and the other state highway men present, Craig got right down to brass tacks and explained very completely, the entire project of Road 23 from Wa’kerton to Mayflower Re td Every detail of the present plan, which is subject to slight change after right-of-way proceedings and various tests are concerned, was presented so everyone could understand the proposed chang* s’ and improvement. Tlie group took over after this and discussion of the Ireland Road and South Bend ByPass plans were given by Craig, and offered positive economic statements. The necessity and
School Reorganization Has Its Sore Spots
Oui sympathy is out to the people in Greene Township on the coming school it nation that will face them in the fall of 1965. Greene is scheduled to be split down the middle geographically the way the plan sets now with part of the students of high school age going to the new Jackson School to be built by that time, and the other half going h North Lib Tty, at least for the time being. Under the school reorganization plan, some people have to be hurt It has happened other places, it is happening to Greene and it will happen in the Polk-Lincoln-Johnson area before it is all dore, but with the propel attitude towards this plan, one must realize that it is happening for the best possible schilling of tiie children. A contnbutor to the South Bend Tribune's voice of the people last week, pushed the fact that the South Bend Community School Board has given them somewhat of a run-around on the situation. There will be some who wish to attend the new high school that will have to go into North Liberty, and some who wish to attend the North Liberty School who will travel

various reasons for the improvement were spelled out by several citizens, all representing groups of individuals, rather than Just an individual themselves. It was stressed at this tune that the people involved in the right-of-way proceedings to follow, will be very instrumental in making the wheels of progress turn as final plans and work simply cannot begin until this land is purchased. Craig also stated how the state approached this right-of-way buying and that the state was fair in their offers and hoped that the people would be likewise in their interests. The satisfa tion which was achieved from this meeting should make all present happy, even though the work is a year away for part of tlie project and maybe as far as three years away for the rest. However, wh ui completed, plans call for Indiana 23 to be a very safe and satisfactory road connecting the southwest part of St. Joseph County to South Bend in very adi*quate form.
to the new school. Tills certain party was con erned with the fact that a student in tlie North Liberty section of Greene would not be allowed to transfer into the Ja kson school should the schedule at North Liberty not be what the student is seeking. Regardless of what the various reasons will be for different feelings toward the new school, Greene is still losing something when the students that have been attending school together in a smaller school system for year.-, will be sp'it down the middle. Tills feeling has occured whenever a s< hool district has lost their school to move further away to a new school under the reorganization ana it will continue in the future. But the one thing that still remains is the thought that in the long run increasing the size of a high school, whether it be in North Liberty or near South Bond, will offer a more improved curriculum for the students, and today the more a student can gain going through high school, means that much more to the future of this student when they move into life as an adult.

Voice of the People It seems to this committee, that we have a gentleman and his wife who are residents at Koontz Lake, that are under the impression that they have the right to eliminate or confiscate your bathing beach The way this man intends to do this Is by erecting a pier in the middle of said beach. This has already been done. The (beach under discussion has until now. been known as Kramer's Beach. Td my kowledge, this is the only beach located at Koontz Lake that people can use to do their swimming. Now tills man wishes to take it away from you. However, he can be stopped. There will baa meeting at the Koontz Lake Conservation Club house Saturday, May 23, at 2:00 p.m„ to discuss this problem and to let the public know just where we stand. The Conservation officer and tlie Prosecuting Attorney will be the main speakers. These gentlemen will expain the situation thoroughly to anyone who will attend. Action will be started just as soon as we get the public behind us. This is your beach that this man is taking from you. I strongly urge you to attend this meeting and give us your support. This is the only way we are going to keep a swimming beach on this lake and this 4 close to home. Thank you. Your Beach Committee Learn to laugh at your own troubles and you'll never run out of something to laugh about. Many people who don’t br heve in fighting insist on saying things that make you want to.
