Scottish Rite Club Enjoys Ladies’ Night Seventy-five members and their ladies attended the St. Joseph County Scottish Rite Club dinner and program at the Masonic Temple Friday evening. April 17th. A piano and violin duo, Mrs Anderson and John Fitzberry of South Bend, provided the dinner music. Leslie Wright, also of South Bend, gave the invocation. The swiss steak dinner was served by the lades of the Walkerton O. E S., assisted by the Rainbow Girls. John Wathen, president of the club, presided during the introductions of other officers. He thi n introduced Thrice Potent Ma.M>r, Ralph Martin, of Mishawaka, who introduced distinguished guests, and lastly, F. J. Nimtz, South Bend, who was master of ceremonies for the evening's program. One of the top notch magicians in this area. "The Great Tonshay” of Chicago, thrilled and astounded his audience with the many slight of hand tricks he did. Mr. Nimtz announced the performer had given his act before King Farouk of Egypt. Following the program, Mr. Wathen conducted election of officers. The newly elected officers to be installed in South Bend in May are: president. Orville Klinedinst; vice president. Alfred Drews: secretary-treasurer. Harry Doll, all of Walkerton. Obey traffic regulations.
Johnson Twp. Club To Be Guests Os Better Homes Club Members of Johnson Township Home Demonstration Club will be special guests of Lhe Walkerton Better Hornes Demonstration Club at their regular meeting Mon lay, April 27, A salad bar will oe served at 6:30 o'clock. Al) local members are asked to bring a salad or send one. Hostesses will be Mi's. Newton Williams, Mrs. Jack Hannagen and Mis. Clyde Stickley. Special music will be enjoyed before the main program, which will lx? a colored movie shown by the Sherman Williams Paint Co. The film, entitled "Colored Newsreel” is based On the $50,000 stage presentation in the W aldorf Astoria Hotel, New York, during a rerent National Paint, Varnish and Lacquer Association convention. The rooms shown were designed and decorated by seven leading well known and highly regarded interior stylists. Betty Furness and Art James of television fame, will narrate the 30 minute movie, accompanied by sprightly color music arranged and conducted by Paul Taubman. Boy Scout News Al Cassel. Scout master, was really surprised Wednesday night when his 33 Boy Scouts honored him on his birthday. His Junior Assistant Scoutmaster, Bill Hiatt, represented the boy to give him a campers knife, fork and spoon set and also a pen and pencil set. Mrs. Cassel arrived with a decorated cake and two gallons of ice cream. ITe boys all sang Happy Birthday, and Al was surprised indeed. Plans for Scoutarama were discussed for May 1 and 2. The boys plan a display of guns. All boys have tickets for sale and are reminded to get them ditributed to the community as the local troop may keep half of the proceeds. Applications to summer camp for two weeks the last part of August are due now. Recharting was taken care of Wednesday night, with Ray Kaminski. Lions Club Institutional representative present. Jack Rizek. Lee Frailey and Dennis Northam drawing up the papers. JOHNSON TOWNSHIP HOME DEMONSTRATION ( M B The Johnson Township Home Demonstration Club met last Wednesday, April 15, in the Community Building. The history of the song, "Drink To Me Only With Thine Eyes," was given by Mrs. Kenneth Johnson. Mrs Harlan Lancaster a< < ompanied the group in singing it. Mrs. Clyde Snodgrass conducted the business session. Mr Harold Knowlton read the minutes of the February and March meetings in the absence of the dub secretary, Mrs. Ruth Clark. The health and safety lesson given by Mrs. Brooke Bowers was on "Fire Prevention." The dub was reminded of the night meeting at Walketon on April 27 when members will be guests of the Better Homes Demonstration Club of Walkerton. Donations were made to the after-prom party fund for Walkerton High School. It was decided not to have a booth at the county fair this year. Capsule friend gifts wore received by Mrs. Ben Williams, Mrs. Lloyd Thomas and Mrs. Andy Morrison Attendance prizes were given to Mrs. Louis Daube, Mrs. Helen Mitchell. Mrs. Elburt Place.
