Walkerton Industrial Fund Needs Your Contributions Now!

Many civic and “Walkerton - Boosters" have given to the necessary fund of the needed SIO,OOO in order to insure full ppynient and clearing of the 35 acres at the west side of Walkerton. Several thousand dollars are still needed and the amount could anil would be raised if lot al business men would only realize that in order to bring industry to Walkerton, the first step is paying for land and for improving same. If you have not already mailed your cheek to the bank or board, why not do it today This industry plan should be a must with any and all wh • want Walkerton to grow and prosper, and they in turn, will b< glad that they hive had a major part in bringing mud) needed industry in Walkerton If you arul you wait until a few are willing to contribute to this fund, then you fail to do your part well We will have only a part of what the Board deems necessary for a real program in making Walkerton a much better place for every one. Rabbi Shulman Speaks At legion Birthday Party The member', of the American Region in Walkerton were surprised with a new amplifier and I’A system Monday night when ’heir Auxiliary staged a party for their 45th birthday Auxiliary president, Mrs. John Grove «, made the presentation to Richard Verkier, legion Commander The speaker for the evening was Rabbi Albert Shulman a past National Chaplain for the American Legion “Rack to God" could well be the title of his speech in which he praised the fact that it was possible that he. as a Jewish Rabbi, could possibly bo chosen to lead the nations' religious activities. Special guests Monday were most all the ministers and their wives of Walkerton. Father Anthony I^tko. of the Catholic church, gave the Invocation and Rev. Harold Williams of the M- thodist church, gave the benediction Rev David Owen, of the Presbyterian dhurch and Rev David Filer of the ET’B church, were also introduced.

complmented the local post for their innumerable tasks. Commander Verkier gave an account of the activities of the post during the last year which included sendee awards to churches, the Rabbi Shulman told of the vast activities of the Legion men and schools and community, including Boys State, oratorical and hand awards, after prom and a teen dance. Third District Auxiliary president and her secretary. Mrs. Peg Hunsberger. both of Nappanee: Mrs. William Flaugher, District treasurer; Milo McClure. Third Dlstict Legion publicity, and Mrs McClure; Hap Hossler, Dept, chairman of Knightstown and commander of the Nappanee post; Ralph Koontz, commander of IxiPaz and vice commander of the district; Robert Craig. Plymouth commander. Past commanders present were: Linder Schmeltz. Ed Klopfenstein. Wayne Miller and the present commander Verkier, who is in h.s second year. March 26. for the spellers in grade 3 4 and 5 of the North Liberty Elementary School Each room has determined it < contestants by proce os of spell downs m the prospective rooms, and written tests Students will then get together in these grades for a regular spellaiifcctnls -ontest ETecanltl;lwn down. with the final six conte,tants remaining, waiting to complete the bat th- for the championship on April 21. at the ITA meeting of the North Liberty schools. Contests will also be hold later for finalists of grades 6. 7. and 8 and for the high school division Ribbons will be awarded to the finalists by the National Honor Society which is helping to conduct the spelling contests.
