Voice Os The People
In regards to the Voice of the People column of last week. I would quote Barnett W Breedlove, state treasurer of the Legion and a member of the Alcoholic Beverage Commisuon; “All the good will created by their (American Legion* civic activities can be destroyed by violation such as the u-e of gambling equipment . . . all of the good works will be of little value if posts show disregard for gambling and liquor sale regulations . . . you can t talk to kids about good citizen-hip if you don't show good citizenship yourself." There is a dangerous mode of thinking within our community which goe■; something like this: ‘lf it is a good cause, then it is legal . . . the end justifies the means." This is dangerous thinking because it is not true To violate the law of a socety for a "good cause" is to create a lawless society, create a lack of respect. within the ranks of youth •nd adult, for authority'. I agree with the above statement of the Legion treasurer Barnett W Breedlove It is true that an organization can destroy all its good by flagrant violation of the laws of society. What is true for organizations is a- u true for our Christian Brethren A Chn ' an can destroy

This is being accomplished by "That SomeDung Extra" they have given.
his good witness, and the good done by a church, with open violation of the law of society and public disregard of the will and wi hes of Jesus Christ. It is true that a community with all of its youth councils, youth buildings, etc., will count for nothing, in the face of adult violation of the spiritual, moral, ethical and civic laws of society. Does it make sense: 1. Point out the dangers of smoking, and yet sell packs to any child? 2. Talk of the problem of Alcoholism as we recover from a wild party? 3. Talk of the need of honesty, while we shade our tax report or pull strings for a traffic violation? • f | 4 Does it make sense to expect young people to stay home while the adult does the town, attends this function, that func5. (Editor's Note:) The following letter is being mailed to all clubs and organizations this week, asking for funds to boost 4-H club work in Walkerton. If any businessmen or individuals would like to take part in a worthy cause, please send any donations, large or small, to the 4-H Advisory Board treasurer, Mrs Marvin Bouse. Address checks to the Lincoln Township 4-H Award Fund. To Whom It May Concern: The members of the Lincoln Township 4-H Advisory Committee would like to appeal to each club and organization for their support to assist the youth of our community. Headed by Harold Matteson and Janus e Helm. 4-H leader? in Walkerton, the committee has conscientiously and diligently come up with a program to promote enthusiasm, participation, and most of all. completion of their 4-H projects. It has been apparent that most of the clubs in Walkerton have surely been concerned w’ith the activities of the youngsters here Perhaps a solution would be more participation in the 4-H ~lub where they have their free time absorbed in constructive, educational. and fun activities, all under supervision. i The poor completion reconi of the yougsters and even low enrollment has been a prime concern of the leaders here This has been partly corrected by the winter program initiated in the boys club last year The 4-H Advisory Committee ba- worked out a two phase point -v-tem for the primary pm:* e < f giving awards not only to th<> outstanding member- for a<<omphshments (one phase) but to the diligent hard working m< mber for participation (second phasei Participation points would add up for attendance projects completed. demonstrations given, spee< hes given committees -erved. judging contests -a es |x»r dollar, junior leadership.
