New Rates For Long Distance "After 9" Calls Oflit tain of United Telephone Company of Indiana, Ine., announced today that a reduction in long distance rat -s on interstate calls went into effect at 12:01 am . on April 1 196.3. The new reduced rates apply to all station-to-station calLs over 221 miles, between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 1:30 am. daily, in< hiding Sundays and holidays. The new “after 9 ' interstate rates were introduced nationwide on April 4. by the telephone industry. following final approval by the Federal Communications Commission. The now rates make it possible to place a three-min-utes. station to station call from anywhere in the continental United States to any other such point for not more than one dollar. The savings to telephone customers range as high as 75 cents on the longest distances for the initial three-minute period. Telephone official-, pant out that due to the geographic location of local subscribers, many maximum distance ' after 9“ calls will cost even letfs than one dollar. F<>r example, a three-minute sta-tion-to-station “after 9" call from Warsaw, Indiana, to New York City or Miami, Florida, will cost only 70 and 80 cents respectively. Prior to the new rates, these game calls were $1 10 and $1 25 respectively. It was also pointer! out that since the “after 9“ rates are timed at th- originating exchange, a caller from this area to the Went Coast would benefit from the earlier time zone on the West Coast Telephone users in Indiana have been enjoying a savings on the "after 9" calls within the state since 1958 and ar.* urged by Unite<l officials to take advantage of the new interstate lates f< r even greater cavings.
