For years programs have bi'en set up honoring athletes and letters, monograms, sweaters and jackets have been awarded as a symbol of their service given In the various fields ©f athletics. Also, band members receive similar awards, clubs and organizations have their sweaters and jackets, but little has hem done to honor the student And al! this time, what basically was the reason a child went to school? To gain an educatton. True, a good basketball or football team will make a school better known than a top scholar. Also, the good derived for an individual and a school by having the good athletic teams cannot be denied. But Mill, the scholar has been denied the recognition until the past few years. Now mont of the schools have programs set up to give reeognttftrn to "the student. Honor sodetim have grown in most School# and programs have been held annually inducting new mein, bers with the present members recognized weU. This is something that any student turning in the academic work along with attitude and desire can lx*long to tn a school. Contests have been going on for years In many subjects that take a few from each school and put them In competition with students from other schools in regional con teats with Mate competition waiting for the high rank-
