For years Indiana has observed the six months of Central Day- f light Savings Time. But each l year, more and more ol the Sftate has been observing the "fast time” all year round. This originally started in the Fort Wayne area and slowly crept to most of the state. Last year all but 17 counties of Indiana’s 92 were on "Fast Time. In the years past, the matter has come before the State Legislature on different occasions and has even appeared on a ballot at election time. However, the decisions of the Legislature were completely ignored by many of the areas as it was put into law that the State operate on six months standard and six months daylight savings lime. Beings there was no way to enforce this law. the areas just remained on the time they wanted.
Last year with the boundary that included "fast tune’’ moving to include more' area, it became more of a problem in this area as our neighbors in Marshall County were in< hided in the fast time group. It caused many odd sitiuations with families as many persons worked on one time, observed the other time for home and social life, and lived in a mild state of confusion. Now the matter is being kicked around pretty good again as only two months remain until the law calls for the changing of time. Walkerton and North Libeity have always followed South Bend South Bend has always followed the pattern of Chicago and the Calumet area. But everything east and almost to the south of us has made the switch to fast time the year round. A foolproof solution to this

time sitiuation se< ms imp'> Mbk as there will always a difference of opinions. In <>ur ana of slow time in the winte r many people pre fel f ist tune, but al-e, many persons in the an ti of fast time prefer the slow time. It. is strictly individual feelings. What tim e we snouid be on is not for any person to say. but the* inconsistency of this scrambled up mess is something that should be c leared up. Last year s<‘Veral of the areas that went to fast time for the winter also turned around and altered their school hours to better accommodate' the children. This stems to pewnt out a definite weakness in their solution to the problem. The time we have after the last of October may remain a secret until the last minute as South Bend usually ket ps rather mum about tl.eir plans until late.
