E-D-I- T-O-R-I -A-L Back To School! This is what races millions of children from Kindergarten ago right through the college level in the next few weeks. The public schools of this area are opening their doors again next week and especially the week after Labor pay as the summer vacation time is fast leaving. It passes so fast, especially when not typical summer weather has been more the rule than the exception. The twelve normal years of public school. 13 if kindergarten is added, can do much to influence the lives of the children attending for this period to get their basic educatim. nome. inis is especially true where something is lacking in home life. Entering school for the firs* time through kindergarten oi the first grade, one may make friends that, will last for a lifetime. The effect these friendships can have, may he a good share of the habits ami ways of life for the child forever In many casew, the friends that are adopted in the early years of school may vanish in a few years as one makes other friends through other activities and environments. Along with this the desire to further education after high school days is either gained or completely overlooked. Maybe school romances will lead to an early marriage for the young persons as they complete high school. Maybe an activity can influence the desire to further one particular field such as
music, athletics, business or religion. Is it right tor a paren' to try and guide the children along the paths they would like to see them follow or is it up to the children to decide for themselves? Ot course an answer cannot be given to this subject to fit all cases. As many different views can be given this as there are children, as each will react a little differently along the way. ine importance of teaching and administration in the schools cannot be overlooked. Appreciation and fondness of a teacher can have much influence on a person the same as dislike and disrespect for the same can have. All these things enter into the picture of the molding of the person as they continue through school, only to find that their public school days are fleeing last and soon they are the ones who must make their decisions as to what paths they will follow. However, this decision for a child to make alone during this time is almost an impossibility. If close cooperation is given through the home ami school, it is much easier for the decision to be made. Interest of the parents in the child’s school work and other activities can be a most important thing. You are not turning your children over to a
