back as sevetal interested loin I persons are forming a team to play just a few games for this year, but to get that all-import-ant stall for next year. A few games will be played in the park yet this summer. It is hoped that by next year another good repi esentative of Walkerton Will be ready to compete around this area again. SOFTBALL HAS BEEN A good sport for yours truly. Through this medium many friends have been made that will remain friends through more than a softball season o” two. It is a good, clean, hard-fought sport that occupies the time that could hang idle for many. It used to be that each town had its own leagues nnd now many of them can't even field a team BUT SPEAKING OF THESE memories, two years spent in the LaPorte leagues with some 2d oi 21 teams will never be forgotten Playing with Plymouth in very strong competition brought back many memories especially at tourney time as it was the good fortune to twice gain the semistate tourney action. In 1958 playing against the defending state champions. Peru, on their home field and emerging a winner over the same, provided a tup thrill. They are again in the state finals and have won the title four times in recent years. THEY WILL BE THE FOES of Cail McNulty, former Elwood Purdue and now PRCU star as well as LaPorte’s basketball coach, as the PRCU team will battle Peru Thursday night. Last year it was the unfortunate pleasure to bat against this McNulty and he is a real pitcher. Ue is the best in this area since the almost untouclu-ble Chick Walsh, who now pilches professionally and does a really good job pf it. MAYBE THIS ISN'T QUITE the caliber of ball that will be played in Walkerton, but it will be a good team that is out to have fun. It is hoped that enough interest could be shown to en(outage more than one team >n town an<l bring this summer sport back in a big way. WITH POTENTIALLY ONE of the be. t diamonds around to plav on. watching softball can give a lot of thills anil fun to the fans The diamond now needs a lot of work, but by next year with the proper start, it could he n-turmd to a natural center fur good ball action, something that this and every town nerds and may now misPROGRESS Necessity creates the will to change first comes the vision then the plan. It is small in number and size, but coach Dan Ransberger hopes that more boys will be on the team as school gets under way. Being greeted with 26 playerthe first day. the squad has now shrunk down to 18 able boduxl boys at present, but reports of a few more coming out at the end of vacation conflicts and so forth, gives hopes for a larger number. The boy- who are out this year arc working hanl and me coming along nicely. They are the ones who realize that there is work to Im* done to get ready for football rather than just to come out and play the games. The enthusiasm shown by these boys has been highly encouraging as they .are currently going through two hard sessions a da^v in preparing for their first game 5 our Finance Headquarter* I p Ta SSHO 21 Mo* General Financing Any Anvmßt * 86 M Automobile Furniture Appllmmcm Power Mower. Fur Bearers Season Listed Following the public hearing on Monday, August 6th, Donald E. Fultz, Director of the Indi ana Department of Conservation set the following taking sea ion on fur-bearing animals. This <ader will be in effect from September 1,1962, to Septemb r 1 1965. The fur taking s«a- m on raccoon, opossum, skunk,’ mink, or muskrat will begin at 12:00 noon on the 15th day of November and continue to 12:00 no in to the 31st day of January. This shortens the season by 15 days as the closing date has been Feb 15th the past three years. Most hunters atMl fur buyers indicted that the former seaaon was too long as the fur caught kite in the season were of little value. Any himter or trapper may possess furs for a period of five days after the last day of the open season. The open season for running raccoon with dog. 3 will be from September Ist to November Ist and from February 15th to April 15th. Organized and supervised wild coon chases for which a permit has been Msued by tl • Director of the Indiana Depart ment of Conservation may be held at any time, from September Ist to and including the first weekend in May. A study is being made of feasibility of having the running season expanded to indml,' the month of August. Read the Classified Ads
