FOOTBALL ON THE HIGH school level is a good sport It is sport m which many can comp -te not limiting a team to ten < > 15 players, b t with a B team - hedulc. 60 and 70 boys is not t <> many. Football is a good con- < tioner sport, perhaps too good t r some of the high school boys o today as they seem to be imi! uned to a little harder effort. HOWEVER. ONOE ITS HERE it is here to stay. Looking at the t । schools involved directly. North Liberty and Walkerton, we s e two different cases. North I. berty. through the backing of Football Be is, rN Club ami < >mpletc cooperation of all concerned, has fielded a good football team in their four or five X ar.- Meanwhile, they have gott n a playing fi Id and a compl te line of equipment WALKERTON. and stmt on the fundamentals and so forth when they should be ba klmg down to some good haid play. HOWEVER SEVERAL things n ust be considered m this line of thought (me is money. Football is an expensive sport Two is the future No one can truthfully say what the future holds in store for either school Maybe the North Liberty and Walkerton high school buildings will be junior highs in another couple of years. Maybe the Lib ity Township students from 9th or 10th grades up will be riding buses into South Bend. Walkerton may be traveling to a new school conveniently located between Lincoln Township and Polk Township, their reorganization companion, NOW THE QUESTION IS, should we spend money on a football field and maybe not even be able to use it in another year or two? The equipment can always Ih- used, but a properly built field costs thousands of dollars. This has been proven in two cases close to homo. Bremen had all the work hired ex<ept a very small portion that was donated by heavy duty equipment. Their costs totaled $22.500. Meanwhile. New Carlisle did all the work themselves except the lights and used the same set-up for leveling the field ami still put $k,500 in their field However. Bremen has a fine field and New Carlisle an average playing area. ECT LAYING THIS ASIDE both Wilk rton and North Liberty have varsity schedules again this year Walkerton, with definitely the weaker and smalk-1 team last year, has two teal hurdles on their schedule, Knox and Nappanee This shouldn't be as they are definitely out of their class in these two games Meanwhile. N irth Liberty meets teams more their own caliber, which will give the boys a good competitive game all season long. Tin-: MAIN THING AT hand now is getting the boys out.

Sure there is a little work involved m football and a few bumps and bruises, hut it is pi mtn basically a safe spoil with proper equipment and training and ceitamly one that can lead to many an enjoyable mo mint and good condit iomn/ i-u all who partK ipate. Pony League Wins Baseball Division Title Ih e Walkerton Pont Leagm bus-ball team won the Eastern Division title of the Kankakee Valley Pony League as they compiled an overall 10 and 2 retard. This is baseball for boys 12 to 11 years of age. The Waikerton team will now play off with the Western Division . winners. the Kingsford Heights Blue Jays, who compiled a similar 10 and two record. Tlhese teams have nut once this year with Kingsford Heights winning. The play-off will begin Friday night on the Walkerton diamond and the series is best two out of three. The Saturday night game will be at Kingsford Heigh’s with the third game if necessary, at Walkerton on Sunday.
