Charlie Weaver To Appear At LaPorte Fair Seven big nights of entertainment including a Thursday appearance by Charlie Weaver, the funny comedian of TV and radio tame, will be presented at the 117th annual LaPorte county fan Hus year from Monday August 13 through Sunday. Aug. 19. The comedian who gained fame on the Jack Parr television show is considered one* of the top comics of show business today and will be making his only appearance of the season in this area when he presents a pair of grandstand shows at 7 and 9 p. ni.. Thursday. August 16. Top-ox?tch entertainment has also been lined op for the other six county fair days, according to Secretary Robert Morse, who .says "There will be no weak spots” this year in scheduled 2i andstand performances. Monday. August 13. at 8 p.m., the fair grandstand entertainment program will be kicked oft with a high school inarching band exhibition featuring the Gary Roosevelt High School band and several other area groups to be named later. On Tuesday, after a 2 p m. mule pullmg contest sponsored by the Mill Greek Lions dub. lair goers with western tastes m entertainment can catch the Johnny River's Golden Ranch Horse Show presented at 7 and 9 p in. with the Roy Rogers Liberty horses and Serenade, the musical horse. Top thrills will be provided at the Golden Ranch horse show, fair officials promise, by Bill Hartack riding "Amigo”, a bucking brahma bull. On Wednesday, at 7 and 9 p. m„ little Ginny Tiu. a talented pianist and child prodigy, will present entertaining shows accompanied by two sisters and a brother, members of her troupe. The young Chinese-American girl has made numerous television and chib appearances including sjiots on the popular Ed Sullivan variety show and others. Danny Flea nor. an old I^aPorte county fair favorite, will be back Friday night Aug 17 with 7 and 9 p.m. performances of his auto thrill show featuring dare devil auto stunts and downs Saturday at 7 and 9 p.m., lx nak| "Red" Blanchard will n ake a second annual appearam e here with the National Barn Danie troupe and a host of talented country stars. stand show. Sunday afternoon, entertainment will be provided by a horse show at 1 p.m. sponsored by the IPorte county sheriff's posse. This year, fair officials point cut. will mark the first time since the Word War II years of the early 1940's that a seven-day fan is presented here. Harness racing fans may choose again tins year from three afternoon programs scheduled for 2 p m,, Thursday. Friday and Saturday on the year-old hah mile county fairgrounds racing oval (’ash prizes frem the speed department and blankets donated by local merchants will be presented to winners again as in past, years. The Blue Grass Shows of Owensborough. Ky„ will again provide mid-way entertainment at the fair as concessionaires. The shows, owned by C. C. "Spec” Groscurtii, is one of the largest such organizations in the business. M< rse cautions that because of the high quality of entertainment to be offered this year, persons should insure their being able to attend the grandstand shews of their choice by writing for tickets in advance. Only reserved and b >x seat tickets may be obtained in advance. Box seat reserved tickets may be obtained in advance for afternoon and night performances on Thursday. Friday. Saturday and Sunday and the night performajice on Wednesday. Only general admission tickets will be sold for other performances and cannot be < btained in advance by mail. Reservations should be made by sending self-addressed envelopes in mail to the LaPorte County Fair Ascciation, route 2, bx 278-B, LaPorte. John Gibley, Grandstand Superintendent, also announces that ticket sales will be made at the fairgrounds beginning Monday, until the time of the fair. The ticket office will be opened at th<» mam fair building from 9 a m. to I p in., Mondays through Saturdays.
