North Liberty Summer Recreation Program Due to the lack of swimming f^nds. there will be no free swim day this year. However, all boys and girls who paid for their trip the 18th of July but did not swim, will be admitted free All others will pay the regular 25 cents. There will be a double header Friday the 20th. The Royals will play the Packers at 1:30 and the Lakers will take on the Celtics at 2:30. The winners of these two games will play Monday at 1:30 for the championship and the two losers will play at 2:30 for the third and fourth places. Boys who are still in the bad. minton tourney will complete their matches before Wednesday, July 25. Check the bulletin board for the schedule of matches. Friday, July 22. is the last day of the North Liberty Park program. There will be special events for boys and girs between the ages of 6 to 16 on this day with races of al! kinds, balloon throw and many others. Prizes will be given. Little League The Angels and the White Sox were rained out as were the Angels and the A’s. The AngelWhite Sox game will be played July 30 at the school at 6:15. the Angel-A’s game will be played July 23 at the school at 6:15. The Twins knocked the Phillies out ofl first place in a well played 5-2 game. Only five errors were committed in the full five inning game. D. Holmes blasted a 3 run homer in the second inning to give the Twins the winning margin. L. Wilcox hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth. The Twins got three hits off loser C. Fields and the Phillies got two hits off J. Fannin. The Phillies lost another close one 6-5 in a six innnig contest with the A's. The Phillies committed only one error but 11 walks were issued to the winners. M. Groves and P. Whitaker made the two catches of the year to cut off two potential Philly rallies. The Twins strengthened their hold on first place by beating the White Sox 7-4. The Twins who were out-hit 7-5. got good hitting performances from D. Holmes and S. Mlekodaj. Holmes had three hits and Mlekodaj a solo homer. C. Howell. G. Groves and G. Ross had two hits each for the Sox. □—— — □ MARRIAGES □ □ Gensinger - Denaut Miss Anna Lou Gensinger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gensinger, Rt. 2, Walkerton, became the bride of Walter Daniel Denaut, son of Dr. and Mrs. Walter Denaut, Fiiday evening. July 13. at 7:30 d’clock in the Walkerton Methodist Church. Rev. Harold Williams performed the double ring ceremony in the presence of the immediate families-. The bride, given in marriage by her father, chose a street length champagne lace dress, with matching accessories. She carried a white orchid. Miss June Shubert, South Bend, was the bride’s attendant. She wore a print street length dress and carried a bouquet of yellow and white carnations. Following the ceremony, a reception was held-int the home of the bride's parents. The couple is residing in South Bend. List Friday Concert Program The eighth in the series of ten summer concerts by the Walkerton High School Band will be held Friday evening July 20. at 7:00 pm. in downtown Walkerton. After this the band will take a well deserved two week vacation. The next conk-ert will be played on Friday evening. August 10, at 7:00 p.m. Also during this concert. Commander Richard Verkier of the Walkerton American Legion Post 189, will present the band with a trophy and check for participation in the State American Legion parade held Saturday, July 14, in South Bend. Lincoln Twp. : Nantes Candidates i For County Fair Competing for St. Joseph County Queen and King Tuesday, July 31, will be Miss Barbara Lidy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert -Lidy—and Richard Houser, muiof Mr. and Mrs. Grant both of Walkerton, representing Lincoln Township here, as announced by 4-H leaders. Miss Janiece Helm, and Harold Matteson. V BARBARA LIDY Miss Lidy has completed 52 project years in her nine years of 4-H work. Last year she won two county championships, one in home furnishings, and one in crafts In 1960 she won county judging championship and was named outstanding junior leader. In 1959 she won a blue ribbon in foods at the State Fair. Last year she was on the Ruth Anderson radio show^from /the fairgrounds and was township director. She has been junior leader four years for girls and of the boys club two years. She was a representative to 4-H Roundup at Purdue University last year and attended Knox junior leader training this year. She has held the office of vice-president, song leader, recreational leader, and reporter for two years in the girls club. She has completed foods IT, Daily Council 8, crafts 4, rabbits 1 wildlife 4. photography 3, food preservation 3. home furnishings 4, health 3. junior leader 3. forestry 2, gardening 3, electricity 1. soil conservation 1, and woodworking 1. RICHARD HOUSER This is Houser’s fourth year as Township King and has 55 project years in nine years of 4-H work. □ ~ □ DEATHS □ □ Vern Wallace Vern Wallace, age 59, of Rt. 3, Walkerton, died at 11 30 a.m. Monday at Hines Memorial Hospital. Hines, 111., where he had been a patient, the last month. He was born May 12, 1903, in Willard, Ohio. On February 20, 1943, he was married to Mildred Patterson in Charleston, N. C. Surviving with the \*idow are one daughter, Mary M„ and one son, Everett A. Wallace, both at home; a sister, Mrs. Wesley M. Sheets, Gary, and two brothers, Garold Dipet t. Walkerton, and Donald Dipert Sr., Gary. He was self-employed in the bait business. She was married in 1932 in Kentucky, to Elmer Pence, who preceded her in death. She is survived by a sister. Miss Hertha Smith, Chicago, and a brother, Cash Smith, also of Chicago. Funeral sei vices were held at the Nusbaum Funeral Home, at 2 p.m Saturday. Rev. Paul Ixmcks, pastor of the United Missionary Church, of Koontz Lake, officiated. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. On Aug. 28. 1906. he was married in Chicago to Theresa Ziegelmier, who died in 1956. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Lilian Cavanaugh of Chicago; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs Helen Klauser, of Stockton, Calif.; four brothers, Enni Kutz of Crystal City. Local Townships 4-H Projects Judged The Annual St. Joseph County Fair will be held this year from Thursday. July 31. thiough Saturday. August 4. The fair will be held at the New Fairgrounds at the corner of Ironwood and Jackson Roads, just south of South Bend. The annual fair is the highlight of the 4-H work for the many 4-H’ers in St. Joseph County. In the Township levels, Liberty and Lincoln Townships were judged by the County officials this past week to pick those who w ill display their projects at the Fair.
