OB! WOMAN.
Titos Root or All Evil-Trouble lu Zlou. It will be remembered that a few weeks ago the wife of the pastor ot Mount Zion Baptist Church was taken from him by the hand of death. The good elder having no children, and being alone in the world took under his roof another man and hU wife to comfort him in his loneliness. As time sped on, trouble began to brew Dissension, sore and wide sprang up in the little colony. The green-eyed monster, gaunt and hungry intruded himself into the reverential habitation. Trouble grew apace. The good shepherdjwas arrested for provoke but came out unscathed. The result was the husband took up his bed and walked. But low! and behold, the wife commiserating with the man of God refused to "walk," but possessing all that nobleness and liberality of heart peculiar to her sex, especially when there is a preacher in it, resolved to remain under her pastor's hospitable roof. At this the husband waxed exceedingly wroth and was heard to cry out in his agony. But she who promised to love and obey him, hearkened not unto his cries, but remained a 4lamb of the innerfold," as it were. But why should these facts cause a "ruction" in the fold? But such is the case. Alas, for human faith I Numerous members of the above named flock have become mutinous and refuse to answer the call of their shepherd, but demand that he be called before a committee of the fathers in Israel and show cause for his etceeeding hospitality. We await developments. Tb Hew City Committee Organize. The newly elected City Committoe met Thursday evening and organized. George F. Branham was elected Chairman, William J. Freaney, Secretary, and John R. Clinton, Treasurer. The Committee left the time for nominating Councilmen with the Committeemen and Republicans of each ward. The Committeemen in each Aldermanic district are to decide upon the time for holding their Aldermanic conventions, and the primaries for electing delegates to the same. The Committee will meet again next Friday evening. IT IM RUMORED. That a certain dashing young man will soon go and see the County Clerk.. That the Democracy can't find anybody willing to be demolished by Dan Grubbs. That Mr. so-and-so will be a candidate for-such-and-8uch a place under the new administration. That numerous gentlemen in Cincinnati would not object to going abroad in Government service. That several ministers to Uayti are lurking around loose in these parts without either muzzles or gags. That several big fat offices are to be literally forced on certain unwilling gentlemen in this section. Don't give it away. Free For All. Jack J. has quit giving parties. I guess the bank has gone dry. Where, oh where is Dr. W's. overcoat? It must be in well, we won't give it away this time. John Stew's gentle vis is seen no more haunting Bell's and Beach's resorts. I guess he finds sweet repose more pleasant at the hotel Bates. Joe L. will give his famous lecture on "Good LooWng Girls," at an early date by special request 01 tne boys at tne urand. E. E. O. the silvery-tongued. etc., will soon take unto himself a partner for life. Poor Ed he could not stand it any longer. Some of the boys says Jno. M. is studying ior tne ministry, uo in jno., you would knock the stuffing out of a yaller leg rniCKen. When old Lafayette has charge of the drinkable at a party he is happy, but take that part or the arrangement from him and he is all broke up. Emanuel C. says he will give a hop to beat the one at Hammonds Hall if he has to engage the Park Theater. Look out for E. C. and his bob-tailed purp. Joe J. sometimes can be seen in the neighborhood of New Jersey and Ohio. Aha, Joe. Tou have ceased to think of the false and fickle Nellie (not Nellie Gray). Wm. B. Hank, Dr. Beach, and the Pennsylvania street Yantuann dealer was at the St. Valentine hop at Hammond Hall. Oh, well, who wou an't go when it only cost twenty-five cents. With Grubbs, Patterson, Connett, Magner and Coulter in the field the Republicans are assured of success at the coming election They are all hardworking Republicans and substantial citizens. Query What has become of Frank W. H.7 He never cornes around now. Ans. He is waiting for the gentle zephyrs of spring to blow once more, so he can turn out in that Prince Albert of bis. Louis T. goes it alone now, since Hank got married. You can see him at any time, wendidg his footsteps alone up and down Ohio street, saying: '"Twas ever thus from childhood's happiest hour etc. Frank G. of the Grand, (otherwise known as "Wing Leo) wears a wnite vest over a white one to call on the ladies. Wing I fuess imagines he is in the celestial kingoms, where they know no winter. The ways of the transgressor are hard, so so sayeth one of the preachers out North, yet he can be sen nearly every da v hankering around after that would be candidate for office this spring." Divest yourself of that sheeps clothing and show your wolfish nature. Poll ileal Talk. The local politicians are now busy fixing up things for the Aldermanic conventions. Harry Drew is pretty likely to succeed D. W. Grubbs as Alderman of the Third district. The new City Committee has three colored Representatives. They are John Kinnchen L. E. Christy, and W. T$ Floyd. Councilman Mauer and Samuel Keers will contest for the nomination for councilman in the Fourteenth ward. It was a noticeable fact that AI ft? or n W Grubbs was the favorite candidate with tha colored delegates in the City Convention. It lfl the nrAVflllincr on? n inn am.tr la.J . reasonable than a similar order to prevent them from playing a part in prayer meetings. A part of the Daily Press has been making a canvas of the city this week, for a man who is 'willing to make race the for Mayor against D. W. Grubbs, but after making a pretty thorough canvass, no sheep has been found who is willing to walk up and be slaughtered. But few men prize tho empty honor of a nomination, and a nomination againet Dan Grubbs will be the emptiest of an empty honor. The Odd Fellows. The anniversary of the G. U. O. F., of Indiana, occurred in this city last Tuesday and Wednesday. The lodge was in session both days at their hall on Washington street On Tuefday they paraded the streets, making a very creditable display. On Tuesday evening the installation of the following officers occurred, at the Sec

Three Churches in Michigan City, Ind.t wanted a revival, but neither one of the three was strong enough to secure by itself the services of an Evangelist or promoter of revivals. So these three Churcnes, Congregational, Methodist and Presbyterian, united their forces and engaged Evangelist Munhall, under whose persuasive efforts about fifty sinners were induced to leave their wicked ways and make profession of religion. This shows that it is possible for Churches of the most radically different theology to unite in evangelical effort, and it offers a cogent argument for consolidating all three into one, instead of continuing the expense and worry of keeping up three rival and competing organizations. What is nioro charming than an agreeable, graceful woman? Here and there we meet one who possesses tho fairy -like power of enchanting all about her. Sometimes she is ignorant herself of the magical influence, which is, for that reason, all the more perfect. Hr presence lights up the home; her approach is like the cheering warmth; she passes by and we are content; she stays awhile and we are happy. To behold her is to live; sha is the aurora with a human face; she makes an Eden of the house; paradise breathes from her, and she communicates this delight to all, without taking any greater trouble than that of existing beside tham.
