JOHHSOHJÜLL Of FIBE Says National League Schedule W ill Xot Be Changed to Suit American.

National Men Feel that They Are Dealing with an Irreponsi- , ble Partv.
NEW YORK. Manh 8. President Pulliarn, of the National League, declared positively to-day that "the schedule of the National League will not be changed in any particular from its present form. Not one change will be made, and you may quote me as positively as you like on this point." This was Mr. Pulliams answer to the statement of President Johnson, of the American League, at Philadelphia that the ptning Käme of the New York Nationals in Brooklyn. April 14, ontlicting with the American League o;.. ni-. nam-' in New "York with Boston, was a departure from the original schedule, and that he would "tight to a finish, " if the matter would not be remedial. Mr. Pulliam said the achedule in this respect had not been changed since th UMtting "f the schedule comrnitt. . that there was no misunderstanding about it in the commute meeting. "Last Sunday." said Mr. Pulliam. "Han Johnson said to Mr lr. yfos in my pr ence that New York intended to pay no attention to the April 14 date. Thn he J promptly went to Philadelphia and talked n the opposite direction. "We have met with Mr. Johnson in a spirit of fairness and we are sick and tired of his unprovoked outbursts, h i liks like a boy rather than a grown-up. We have come to feel that we have been dealing with an irresponsible party, for no sooner re agreements mad than he begins to cry aloud. He does more than any man in either league to fry to down the game and hurt it. "Now. finally, let me say, and positively, that if Ban Johnson In his utterances represents the sentiment of the American 1easruc. the .sooner we know of it the better. The war costs money, but war is Infinitely preferable to this sort of peace. The sooner he br aks away the better' Parney Prey f us, of the National League schedule committee, added to Mr. Pulliam's statement: "Ban Johnson's utterances are almost too childish to talk about. Out of l."4 games he cries out about 0Mb and thut, too, after he has agreed to it. I agree perfectly with Mr. Pulliam. '

WASHINGTON. March 8. President Ban Johnson, of the American Baseball Lcaque. rrived here to-night from New York, lie announced that tu- A no ri. an I.. .r. probably would conduct the Washington baseball club this season. Mr. Johnson said he had not given up hop. .. deposing of the club before the sea.-on opened, but as the time for beginning training was at hand he felt that he should com here and make arrangements for the camuafkn. No manager, he said, had been selected, but there were two good men. he said, whom he had In view. He expects to spend considerable time in Washington this season, for he is bound, he said, that this city shall have something better ia ha ball than it ha.-, heretofore. Mr. Johnson gave out the roster of the Washington club for the season as follows: Pitchers. Patten, Orth, Arthur Hildebrand. Wilson, le. Townse-wl and Jacobson; catchers. Clarke. Ktttrldgs and Drill; first base. Jake Stahl: second base, McC'ormick; rtWf lit una Moran and Cassidv; third ae. C.iuBhün; outfielders. Selbach, Homer HUdebiand ami Winters. It is probable the old National League grounds will be secured for the season, as they are regarded as being more advantageously located than those now used by the American League.

Cornel Ts Representatives Covered the Four Miles in i8:-o 4-5.
NKW YORK. March 8. For the first time In twenty-seven years the New York Athletic Club heid an indoor meet to-night. The programme was a varied one and the contests took place in Madison-square Garden before a keenly appreciative gathering of men and women. A sreat deal of interest centered in the intercity regimental relay race, at one mile, in which the Thirteenth Regiment team, of Brooklyn, defeated a t-am representing the First Regiment, of Chicago, by twenty yards, with the Twenty-second Regiment team, of this city, third, six yards back, the time of the winning team being 3:34 2-5. The fleet-footed runners of Yale University captured first honors in the one-mile and two-mile relay races, but Cornell defeated Yale in the fourmile reluy. in which each member of the four-men teams ran one mile. New indoor records were made in the two lancer distance relay races, Cornell's representatives covering four miles in 18:30 4-r, which is over seven seconds better than the previous records. The Cornell man led throughout Ithaca's last relay, with Echutt. finishing nearly 100 yards ahead of C. B Aicott In the two-mile relay race onen tn i 1.

A HARD FOUGHT GAME Indianapolis V. II. C. A. Basketball Team Defeated Fast Chicago Quintet. OVERCAME BIG LEAD
Firs! Half Closed with the Visiting Team in the Lead Spohr a Star.
In the fastest basketball game ever witness in the city the local Y. M. C. A. team defeated the much touted world's championship five of the West Side V. M. C. A. of Chicago last night by a score of ol to 27. Chicago started out like an easy winner a. id at the end of the iirst half had the big end of a 15 to 5 score. The visitors' stylo cf play was very deceptive to the local boys, as they depended on Ions hih passes und long throws for the basket to score their points. They shifted their center to back forward and their guards to forward and had the Y. M. C A. team puzzled. The Indianapolis players soon solved their style of play and commenced a hard up-hill light for a victory. Gradually it wore down the lead, Spohr and Churchill lundirfg some beautiful field goals. The latter also showed great head work in throwing foul goals. Bates, Hasse and Gibbs worked like trojans to keep the hall in the visitors' territory. Spohr made two goals from the Sfda of the held while running at top speed. Churchill dropped three more in tie- bask t, tying the score. Pibbs th.n put his team in the lead by tossing in a clever pass from Bates and the spectators cheered themselves hoarse. The Windy City team then made a desperate attempt to regain the lost ground, but to no avail, as Churchill scored again just as the whistle blew. Captain Tousland played the b?st game for th- visitors. Moot and McAll also contributed some pretty playing. Th.- set ..ad teams of the local hih schools played a one-sided game as a preliminary. M. T. H. S. clearly outplayed the Shortridge scrubs and won by a score of 2$ to 11. Line-up and summary of Chicago-Indi

APPELLATE COURT SAYS LITIGATION IS INVALID
The Appellate Court yesterday sustained the action of the Circuit Court in the case of Bomus F. Stuart as a taxpayer of Marion county, in his suit against ex-Treasurer Sterling R. Holt and William II. Schmidt. respectively. Stuart sought to recover $&0,000 from Holt and $150,000 was demanded from Schmidt. Both complaints were held bad because Stuart personally had no right of action. Btuart had asked in his complaint that he be allowed one-fourth of all money recovered as attorneys- ices, but this is held as giving him no such legal right in the money as justified in making him a party to the suit. It is said that no further suits can be brought against Holt t.nd his In. ii. Ismen, nor ugainst the boudsmen on Schmidt's first bond.
Man Giving Alias Requests Judgment in Bankruptcy One of the most novel bankruptcy petitions filed in the Federal Court for some time was entered yesterday morning by "George Fuseing. alias George Moore.'' A large number of his assets are accounts on his books, in which he has given credit to quite a number ..f people who are from Whiting and East Chicago. The credit was always given for drinks.
