Given July 4-9 Under Jockey Club Rules.
The Indianapolis Racing Association has
prepared its programme for the runningrace meet to be given at the state fair grounds track from July 4 to July 3, inclusive. This meet will be exclusively for
the runners and the purses and stakes will
he large enough to attract the best stable3
W the country. The meet will be conduct
ed under the rules qi the Wait am Jockey Club and it is assured that there will be some first-class horses and jockeys here.
Under the rules of the association all
horses and names of owners must be fully identified before they will be allowed to

Jesse Pritxhett. of the Ko-We-Ba team, of th'e Indianapolis Bowling League, now has a rival for the leadership. Brinkmeyer, of the W;if hingt ons, is now tied with Pritchett, both having averages of 186 for sixty-three jnmes. Kryson. of the Marions, and Ray, of the Washingtons, are tied for second place, with averages of 185, and three men aie tied for the third position. Hayes Potter, of the Pettis team, continues to top the Commercial bowlers by a threepoint margin. Peacock, of the Burfords, has an average of 177. holding second place, and Buzatt, of the ReMables, is third with 175. Tiie weight question, which has caused 0 many squabbles ll I ill till, is very important to all fighters. A match well made, according to many boxers, is as good i-s half won. Outside of the actual conditioning ÜMV is probably uo more important dttail than the weight of a mau is to tight at. One peculiar thing about fighters is that they try to conceal their actual lighting weight. Therefore it is not au easy matter to tell what this or that boxer weighs until he weighs in prior to the coutest in which he is to take part. , Every boxer Is at his best at a certain weight. That is. if he is underweight he is going to be at a disadvantage and If he is overweight the effect will be the -ame. Let a fighter BOake a mistake about his weight and enter the ring under his actual tUhtii.o' w. i.;ht and he will discover that he has lost his vitality and strength aud caunot do himself Justice. Although many fighters have mide tM?
mistake by taking chances, probably one of the most conspicuous cases whereby the weight question had a material effect was when Frank Erue. at that time lightweight champion of the world, tackled Terry McGovern. Erne's actuai fightm; weight was VJ, but he very foolishly agreed to weigh in at 12S pounds. It is not a question of compulsion amoug some fighters to make weight. They do so because they know when they are at a certain weight they are in th beat possible condition. This is shown amoug tiie heavyweights. It Is not necessary for box : who are fighting at catch weights to come down to any special limit, still Champion Jeffries works hard to get to a certain weight-his fighting weight. Whan not in training Jeffries strolls around the street at about 230 pounds. He is bt.-t for fighting condition at 20b or 210. James J. Corbett is another heavy-weight who was particular about his weight. He fights at about 1W pounds.
