Outside Trust Concern Cannot Administer Connecticut lstnte. NEW HAVIN. Conn., April 5. A decision Tvhich threatens to upset the business of a score of tru5t companies doing business ?s foreign corporations In this State was renfioied by the Supreme Court. It refers to the administration of estates and means. In brief, that no foreign corporation, although specially chartered In other States, has the right to act as administrator of Cornectuct estates. The suit In question was brounht by the Farmers' Loan and Trust Company of New York against Frances J. Smith, resulting from tr.o death of Edward Smith, of Waterbury. The application of the trust company to act as administrator is denied by the Sup re roe Court on the ground that, os a foreign corporation. It Is denied by the statutes the riht to carry on the business of deceased persons. The sweeping effect of this decision m.iy be seen from the fact that at present there are perhaps twenty foreign corporations handling some of the largest Connecticut estates. Cnnnnt Dt Ilualnen In Michltcnn. LANSING. Mich.. April Z. State Insurance Commissioner J. V. Barry has refused to renew the Michigan license of the National Protective Legion of Waverly, N. Y.. which has about 7.0 members in the State. He holds that the business transacted by the legislation is not contemplated by the fraternal beneficiary law of this State under which the Legion ha been operating. The secretary of state his decided that the p.Ileged building and loan business transacted by the Home Co-operative Company, the United States Loan and Itealty Company and the Provident Home Company, all of Missouri, is against public policy and will force them to cease operations in Michigan. Laboratory- Dedicated. EASTON, Fa., April 5 The daily laboratory of chemistry and metallurgy and the Oliver library, gift to Lafayette College by James W. (iaily, vice president of the United States Sterl Corporation, and Henry W. Oliver, of Pittsburg, were dedicated to-day in the presence of many of the leading educational and iron and steel men of the country. Addresses were made by several prominent speakers, and the ceremony of presentation was performed by Mr. Gaily, the donor of the building. FOIl SALC HEAL ESTATIJ.
