INTEREST IN STATE FAIR INDIANAPOLIS PEOPLE AIIE MAKING MANY INQUIRIES. Sonia Parties Are Delnsj Formed Interest In none and Lire Stock Shows Secretary Is Daar. In all th years I hav been with the State Board of Agriculture, both as a member and as secretary, I have never had &m many Inquiries from Indianapolis people on State Fair topics as I am now retting," said Secretary Charles Downing. "I believe people in Indianapolis appreciate the worth of the fair to the city from a business, as well as a social standpoint, to a greater extent than they ever did. Three or four times a äay I get a heavy mall of inquiries from the city people and they keep my telephone Jangling from morning until night. They are asking about departments of the fair that I never supposed a man or woman who lives in the city was Interested In. The fair management has known for a long time that Indianapolis people wera interested in blooded horses and It was this Interest that led to the State board to hold its parades of these blooded animals. But this year I am getting as many Inquiries as to when the cattle shows, the sheep shows and the poultry shows will be held, and by their questions the Indianapolis people indicate that they aro now interested in mors than the prancing horses. These shows are to continue through the week of the fair and the barns for horses, cattle and sheep are going to be crowded with a fine class of show animals. The exhibitors seem to be more Numerous than ever in the State fair circuits and they are going to bring hundreds of animals here from many States. City people will find that the State Board has looked after their Interests pretty thoroughly. They have not quite recovered from the military fever that prevailed when the Spanish soldiers wera at the fair grounds and there are many inquiries as to when the Odd Fellows' drills are to be held. They occur Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and possibly Saturday morning. These drills are going to be picturesque and they can be seen to an advantage from the grand stand at the race track. The Odd Fellows will not be playing during the drills. There is going to be too much glory and prize money at stake and every canton will know it is to compete with the best cantons in America. TUE SOUSA PARTIES. "I have not tried to count the number of Sousa parties that are going to be given by city people on Wednesday and Thürsday of the fair, but there will be several hundred of them. These- parties are forming at all the cities within reach of ! Indianapolis, as well as here. Most of the Indianapolis people are preparing to go at night, and the management is preparing to take care of great crowds of city people. Besides the street cars, there will be special trains over the Monon Railroad before and after the concert. Carriages are to be admitted without charge and they may be driven on the race track and to the infield that peoplo may get within easy hearing of the band. The management will also have a place on the grounds where vehicles may be checked. There will be men on hand to look after these vehicles and the States Board of Agriculture will see that the horses are looked after and will be responsible for the loss of property from the vehicles. All week there will be 'somethin' doin' at the fair that will be as much of interest to the city people as it will be to those from the country." ADDRESS TO THE PEOPLE IT IS ISSUED DY TIIE ODD FELLOWS' EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE. Merchant? Requested to IJcnntify Their Places of limine Facts About the Illjf Event. The executive committee having in charge the arrangements for entertaining the Sovereign Grand Lodge of Odd Fellows, W. II. Leedy chairman and John F. Wallick secretary, yesterday issued the following address to "the manufacturers, merchants and citizens of Indianapolis:" "In behalf of the 5a0 Odd Fellows employed in mercantile and manufacturing pursuits in this city who will almost unanimously desire to participate In the parade in honor of the Sovereign Grand Lodge, I. O. O. F.. and the many other tmployos who will desire to view it we most earnestly request that factories and stores, so far as it is . possible and reasonable, will close on the afternoon of Sept. 17, and where not possible that all members of the order be uiven the privilege of at least a half holiday. 'e believe from the advices we have recti ved that this parade will be one of the largest and most imposing this city has ever witnessed. The Sovereign Grand lodge is composed of representatives of every State in the I'nion and every province of Canada, and represents more than LI"".!1". Individual members in the rr.ltcd States. Canada, Germany. Sweden, Mexico. Australia and many other countries of the world. Thrs,"" distinguished men represent the highest type of civilization and statesmanship in the jurisdiction from whence they cone-, and it is earnestly hoped to extend them such honors and overwhelming court sies as will make Indianapolis and Indiana the most favorablyknown among them of any city or Slate in which the. sovereign grand tody has held its sessions. "That our city, too, the most beautiful inland city in t he world, may be at its best and that our visitors may s. as well as feel the enthusiasm of the welcome we mot rcsptctfuliy request extensive decor, itious of business houses and homes. The ofheial c olors of the ordt r are white, senrlet. green and purple. Th se decorations should be provided early that the supply, if exhausted, may be replenished. "The committee requests also that additional roms and boarding honst s pl.u ed at its disposal at once. Aeeomniodatio:i s have b -ru tendered for many thousands, and while these reservations may be :Ui, probably are adequate there must be n. donbt that every one who shall visit the i t v ;it that time shall be comfortably pi eio d for at reasonable price. Citizens who e;m accommodate any number two, foui, e jht or more are requested to call or addrt the grand set.-r-t. try's olf'ue. corner Washington and 1 nnsy 1 varii.i stre ts. at or.ee. li by s -ttlng apart u room or two
shall be at some Inconvenience 't Is for the good name of our city. It is the pleasure of this committee to rrovide accommodations for all who apply Odd Fellows and others alike. Koom rent cards will also be provided at the grand secretary's office to all who shall request thm. Likewise should ample provision be made for feeding these hosts. We most sincerely hope that these additional wants will be anticipated. "We have every reason to expect a large attendance of Odd Fellows and others. Cantons Patriarch Militant will be here in numbers. Degree staffs of from twenty to forty members will be here from various part of the country to the number of forty, and there will be delegations from other places. The order In our own State Is enthusiastic as it never was before, and our first estimate of 100.000 visitors. Inclusive of those who shall come for the state fair, seems now to be not an unreasonable one. We. bespeak for each one of them the most kindly anil courteous consideration and welcome."
