Ooe of the oldest attaches at tho Union Station said the other day: "It is marvelous how few polite people travel;" and ail travelers will be agreeable and echo his expression. At this season, when so many are traveling, one has a line oDportnmty to judge of American m&nners in general. It is not always in the drawing-room that one can judge of the consideration and attentions one receives, whether such kindnesses extend further than the front door, and whether the batcher, the biker and the candlestick-maker know bow nice one can be. Cue sees a great amount of selfishness exhibited ou the cars. not only steam but electric and mulo cars. One who was a stranger in the country might supposo his fellows deaf mutes and sightless, so deaf, dumb and blind do they appear to tho others. How many have had to crowd . past the knees of some boor who wanted the end seat in the car. People are not inclined to move np and give others a half a chance.

There is danger to life and limb in the eellihness shown in traveling. One mmt not suppose that all people who are polite stay at borne any more ttian that all people ' who do not go on summer trips cannot afford it. The only reasonable conclusion as to this great lack of politeness is that people leave it oil, as a garment, and hung up In a closet at home together with other garments which are too common to take. Sometimes it gets worn out, but too often it becomes rusty from disuse. Personal Mention. Miss Jessie Fox has returned from Lake Minnetonka.
