All society and personal notes for the Sunday issue o f the Journal, to secure publication, must It in thehandsof the ctty editor ly Saturday noon, There has been a new diversion added to those used at chnrch entertainments. No one expects anything very exciting at socials of that character, and if any novelty in introduced it is of such a mild sort that it amuses people who would not be moved in the elightcat degree if it was undertaken at any other place. But the new diversion is the bonnet social, its origin, however, being lost Deprived of tho finery' that make them so expensive when new, bonnets once in style are resurrected and, with feathers, ribbons and laces, placed in a box with thread, needle, thimble and plenty of pins. These boxes are then given to gentlemen at the social, and they are expected to trim the bonnets. Outside of the professional man-milliner there is no accomplishment further from those of man's attainments than this one of decorating head-gear. When the novices begin to adorn the straw or felt, the excitement begins, and no more interested and ready-to-laugh spectators can be found than the providers of the bonnets and trimmings. Bonnets, sinco time immemorial, have been the point of countless jokes, but women know, and men should know by this time, that a pretty and becoming bonnet is the crowning appointment to a costume. Tho only time wben a woman's bonnet Is not an fait is after 6 o'clock at a private house, and yet women of taste wear them there. At any private entertainment, after the hour mentioned, the bonnet should not appear. Some of the members of the Dramatic Club are anxious to have ladies appear without bonnets when they give their plays. At the plays are generally followed by a dance and a social time, bonnets are decidedly oat of place. So they are at evening receptions, and at any place where entertainment is at all of a social nature and at a private bonne. The closing week of the vcar was about like those that had goue before. Wednesday the marriage of Mr. William T. rfaff and Miss Mary L. Spahr was celebrated at llall-place Church, and about twenty-nve gentlemen were host? at an elegant german at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. IL D. l I'eirce. New Year's day there was considerable railing, but few large parties received. While their preparations were as elaborate as in former year the custom was observed less than it has yet been. After a year or two of quiet it will probablv revive with all its oldtime life, as so many other customs have dono in tho past few years. PtrMiDAl Mention.
