- PERS0R& AND SOCIETY. The past veeTc has beca rcry gay, socially, compared .frith the treeks of summer dullness. Mrs. R. 0. The fashionable September and October seasons of seaside and mountain have not the charm for Indiana people that they seem to have for iifiFfu PPle- Indiana takes her vacation with the school-children, and when tney return for their round of duties in the pursuit of education, the mammas and papas return for household and business, me cniiiy evenings make dancing a more agreeable amnsement, and the canal has its quota of pleasure-seekers each day and evening. Many a hostess invites guests to her home about "whom she knows hut little. A widow of this city received an invitation last week addressed to Mr. and Mrs. , and her husband has been dead for twenty years. It would not be too much to expect of a lady for her to know whether her acquaintance had a 'husband or not. How often it cappers that; a woman in V,1 reciv letters addressed: 'Tear, 8ir- ,Tat w always safe, but it may be supposed that a business woman so addressed gives a Vhumph" of disdain when she beholds herself addressed as "dear sir.wThe latter case might be expected, but no one but a widow can understand the feeling of taking up a note addressed to a man who has been twenty years under the sod. There may not be timeti thi bnay, work-a-day world for us to - .wall about our neighbors, but it is t hoped that persons will at Je.vst knorri -mgh not to invite the defunct to their 4 'es.
