fERSOXAL AND SOCIETY. Ono of the brides o the past year haa jono to house-keeping, and sho has beet fortunate enough to secnro . a servan; who is a jewel of a girL She can do anything, and when necessity demands is willing to mako almost any sacrifice in order to do what she thinks the mistress would like to have done. Not many days ago a young lady homo from college called on tho young. Louse-keeper. The servant answered the, bell, said that Mrs. 'A. was in and ushered the visitor into the parlor, before taking the card up stairs to the lady of the house She delivered the card, returned, to the parlor, seated herself and began to entertain the caller. Tho latter, supposing she was 'ono of tho family, told her of her experiences at college, asked various questions, and they were chatting merrily when tho caller suddenly asked if ho was related to Mrs. A. She answered No," and said she was the cook. It is said that the caller was embarrassed, and that the hostess entered at that moment and tho cook retired. To all appearances the cook "was capable of entertaining the caller, which all cooks are not. It is certain that , if tne coUeg-bred young woman was at all chagrined at the thought of talking so interestingly to the servant, who evidently 'appreciated all that she said, one branch of her education has been seriously neglected. In the "Looking Hack ward" era the college young woman will have no advantages, social or otherwise, over the cook. Among the social gatherings of tho past week were the several tennis games which have been played nearly every day. The largest and most fashionably -attended was the one with which Mr. Ed Hunt entertained his friends. Four courts were provided, and .his sister, Mrs. Harry Crossland, was hostess for the company, serving the refreshment in her new home on Alabama atrect. Airs. Dr. Allen gave a dancing party during ho week, and Miss Dye took a picnic party to Millersrille. Mis Annie Butler gave a ennis party for afternoon and dancing for evening. The Merritt-Fisher wedding, and 2be Gravdon garden party were also m the wek's list.
