PERSONAL AND SOCIETY.
-Manners change with surroundings. Of course to this there are always exceptions. There are some people who are the same printer and summer, at church or a ball, at home or abroad, but these are of such a mild kind that they are tiresome to the majority. Nerves are slid to play a great part in one's life. One "who cannot bear h bit of : noise, a rustling garment, 'squeaky" shoes, escaping steam, the noise oi natural gas, says that it almost drives me wild." People of an excitable temperament are as changable as the weather (not the kind of the last week, however.) They have spells. They will be as calm as the proverbial summer sea, or as sweet as a rose, when, presto change, they are as opposite as one could possibly imagine. Young girls have many changes. At hone with their parents they are as well behaved aa the parents could desire. Away, and they aro as rudo and hoydenish as a-person with no training. To visit away from home will change a girl's nature. One visited here some years ago. She tiirted with any one, would talk loud, , and do all manner of , odd things, wear conspicuous clothes, and made herself the subject of some very uncomplimentary remarks simplv by her own conduct. The people whom aha tisitedwere mortified that their friends should know her, and yet when the young lady of whom she was the truest bad visited her. alio had been ladvlike, modest and retined. The excitement of her visit had bronght out all the unculttired aide of hr nature, which might have laid dormant for years if she had stayed at home. Many act upon impulse, and say and do many things which they heartily regret. A young lady visited a neighboring city not many years ago, and sEe bad behaved herself ao unbecomingly whilo there that she ever afterward dreaded meeting any one from that place, for fear they had heard of her "freshness." That is an Americanism that accounts for a certain quality of action that disgusts many well-bred' persons, and it was just that feeling that had seized her at the time. She never could quite account to herself now 6he had committed the act, but ahe had done it, and was greatly chagrined in conseunence. Some never can be trained to be ladies or gentlemen always, and those who try have to keep themselves constantly in mind. . The Musical Festival and the Gilbert.Woodburn wedding were the events of the week. The spell of weather has been the reason why so many picnics and other entertainments have been postponed. The rarity of a June day this year has been that sealskin cloaks, winter overcoats and hot fires have been the style, as well as comfortable more than the lawns and laces of other Junes. No one dares to make any plans for entertainments, for fear no one will attend, on account of the rain, and yet, the night of the wedding, the chnrch was full, and the Musical Festival had the largest auditnces.of the season, it must be that people are becoming hardened to rain. The social pason that was anticipated has not proven gay, and now preparations are being made tor summer visits. Personal Mention. Miss Laura Dunnington, of Fairmount, W.
