In yesterday's American was published cable from a London correspondent stating that London society was all agog over dancing controversy, for which they bleu. 9! the Americans who have crossed the pvn.U They claim, through Mr. George Grossmith.S leading man for Gilbert and bullivan, tha. American waltzers are to blame for intrft" dnemg in their midst the gudo waltz, which, they think ridiculous. : Sneaking of tho acensation. Prof. James W. llangert, teacher of dancing at Standard Hall, corner of Baltimore and Frederick' streets, says: The blame for introducing what they term the ridicnlous glide waltz; could be attributed to no other than tho ' American people, for the Euglish are too' Blow and clumsy to introdace the dance,1 which. I think, is the acme of America's graceful dances. The English are not only' the most ungraceful dancers in the worldV but they aro tardy in learning even thnsimplest of our dances. I have had the; commanders and sub-officers of English : steamers to join my classes during theier titayin the city, but on account of their short stature and broad build, dancing was more like bard work to them than &1 pleasure, and became disgusted before theyj conld acquire our style of dancing. Ono thing is sure, and that is Londoners are about twenty years behind the times in terpischorcau art That is clearly shown by them when they say the Prince of WaW and those of the Marlborough net, a well a. a number of Americansnow living abroad,1 waltz and gallop incorrectly, because they do not dance entirely upon their toed like a maid of the ballet. Tho reason they don't like the gli!e is because they cannot master it, and condemn it on these grounds. The waltz is truly beautiful, and consists of tdx steps to the right, just the same as in the old waltr; then glide back in tare steps, reverse to left in six more steps, and then by eliding back three more steps you will lind yourself in your original position. Of courte this is repented, as many times as you wish, and the gliding movement does away witbl the dizzy feeling which is caused by tho continual round of German waltz," Signor Ilazazer says: "Very few of American dances are prettier than the glido waltz, and Europeans have no dance which wotild compare favorably with it. It would be impossible to dance on the toes only, for the pleasure then would be looked upon as a bore. Waltzing in America is done by making a full rest on the first note of cacu bar. then follow gracefully on the toea without springing, so as to make the move an abrupt one. In Canada some of my pupils were compelled to sit down while the foreigners were on the floor at any publio reception, because in tfceir horrible galop they took np the entire boor in a very fewseconds. The best proofs we have to show for the popularity of the glide waltz is, while numbers of other pretty round dances have been introduced since tho glide's first appearance, they all have gone cut of style, and the glMe holds its own everywhere."
