The costumes among the ladies were elegant and in numerous cases they were particularly exquisite. The club is strong socially and financially, and bids fair to give the most enjoyable dances of the coming winter. A number of visitors from abroad were present. It is the intention of the management to give semi-month. y dances Peru Can on. No. 20, Patriarchs Militant, I. O. O. P., gave an elegant entertainment in Grand Army hall, in the nature of a concert by the Emerson Quartet About five hundred persons were present. The entertainment was conducted by ex-Giand Master Kenner, of Huntington, and was socially and financially a success. The canton is thirty-seven strong, and will make one of the finest commanderies in the State The "Naiad Queen,' a comic operetta to be given in this city this week, under the management of Prof. Clark, assisted by local talent, promises a rich treat for 'music loving people.... R. in this city is an organ' ttion fifty strong, and is composed of our representative people. The installation, which occurs on the 5th of this month, comprises: President. Miss Dora is the only child of Dr. Speck, one of our wealthiest farmers A jolly crowd of our young people took advantage of the good sleighing, on Thursday evening, and spent the time very agreeably at J. Labor matters. Baltimore Typographical Union Orders an Advance In Frio of Composition. Baltimore, Md., Jan. L The Baltimore Typographical Union, No. 12, has Increased the priees for composition on the daily papers to 45 eents on morning and to 40 cents on evening sheets. A paper complaining; of this action has been presented to the president of the union by the publishers of the American Daily News, and the Herald. The San did not sign the paper, and by refusing to do so tacitly acceded to the printers new schedule. Glotqxsteb. Mass., Jan. L The past year has been an unprofitable and disastrous oni the fishermen from this port, and has been tended with some loss of life. The loss has eeed the average. The figures show a total loss 26 veseeSi Hh a tonnage of 175,126, valued at $152,300, and insured for $19,231. The number of lives lost is 13f. The Christmas and New Year gales of 1885 proved very calamitous. The losses from Dec. to March 31 comprised 12 vessels, three with crews of 42 men, while 24 ether men lost their lives. The total loss was 66 lives and nearly $100,000 worth of property in these gales. Fourteen women were left widows and 35 children fatherless. The crews noted above have all been lost since March. It is rarely that December passes without the los6 of a fishing vessel, but as yet no loss has been reportfor this month. Drawn Contest Between Crack Shots, Newark, N. J., Jan. 1. Wm.
