On the contrary. In Haneves alone there are 900.000 acres of wood under State management ; while nearly a fourth pari of the area of Prussia is in rorest. although nan of that is in private bands. As la well known the forest administration in particular districts has long been famous, especlslly In Tharugia and the Harts Mountains. In North Germany generally the responsibilities are allotted In districts among a carefully organized body ot ofilcers, presided over by a forest director. The appointments are rainy remunerated; and tney are so eagerly sought after, that candidates wiu remain on probation tor years at their own cost. or with moderate and precarioas pay, lit the bope ot securing a place in the corps at lastr In Anstns, things are on a somewhat ditiarenk footing.
