Brick work on the first section of the Illinois street sewer is in full progress. A marriage liense was issuedjto-day to Walter J. Sargeant and Stella Preble. All the banks have agreed to close their doors to-morrow in honor of Decoration Day. The gardeners marched about the street" to-ay, prior to proceeding to their annual pick-nick ground. Judge Martindale has announced that he will contest the collection f the Market street Nicolson pavement tax. The various Decoration Day Committees are requested to meet at nine o'clock at the law office of Lamme fc Hawkins, for the purpose of final consultation with regard to the caremonies. The remaining members of the gambling fraternity in the city are now going for each other's watches, andihere is a cheerful probability some of the number will soon wager wearing apparel on the "top hand." The residents on North Meridian street are not able to indulge in open air concerts by brass bands, but the want thereof is more than supplied b the hoarse bellowing of the lusty bull frogs about the margin of Dr. Pierce's pond. Craft, of Terre Haute, begins to think a reportorial conspiracy has been organized against him, his name having been misspelled in every paper in the city. Dr. L. D. Waterman read a very interesting paper on "Thermometry in Disease" before the Academy of Medicine last evening. James L. Mitchell can drop harder to the ground from aDjoverturning vehicle than any other light weight in the country. The eage of Chappaqua will be gratified to learn that Councilman Gimber has declared in his favor. Mayor Macaoley returned from the cast last vening.' . Ned B run d age finds horse races almost as expensive as the effort to become a Councilman. Dan. M. Ransdell has united with the real estate firm of Cleaveland, Smock & Co. Rev. Judson M. Curtis, of Bowling Green, Ky., has been chosen Assistant Rector of St. Paul's Cathedral, this city. Anew wholesale; hat, cap and straw goods firm, consisting of Mr. R. J. Conner and Ed. G. H-jriso.i a son Alfred Harrison, the wellknown banker, will commence business on South Meriaian street in a few weeks. Mr.' H, will probably place the club on ex hibition for a short time among the other curi osities in the o2e of the State Geologist. The shock-headed Sycamore of the Wabash Is In the city, and Is being wrestled with by tht Indiana Talleyrand. The latter avers that he will wager a chance In the next lottery against the water-works stock of General McGmnis that his red-headed friend will be shouting for Greeley within ten days. The many friends of General James A. Ekin will be pleased to learn that he will be present at the decoration ceremonies to-morrow. The location of the Soldiers' Cemetery at this point is due almost entirely to his exer tions, and it is to be hoped that he will be called upon at the ground to address the mul titude. Even a few remarks from the gentle man would answer the purpose of any ordinary speech. Harry Clapham, ' business agent of Cal. Wag ner's Minstrels, is in the city. DECORATION DAY. In order to accommodate the multitude the main line of street cars will start start from the'Bates nousc corner at one o'clock, and all ingle-horse cars will be taken off the other branches. The Bee Line, in connection with the Pennsylvania Central Railway, will place ou sale at the Union Depot, May 25th, round trip tickets to Philadelphia and return, at about one fare or as low as any other route. Tickets will be good to go until June 5th. Good to return till June 15th. Parties should take the 10:10 a. m. train on the Bee Line. It arrives the next day at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. The night express trains arrive in Philadelphia at 3 o'clock in the morning. Passengers on the 10:10 train are only output one night. ' - The Pan-Handle Route will carry all persons who may wish to attend the Philadelphia Convention at Jie low rate of nineteen dollars for the round trip. Tickets will be put on sale on the 25th instant, and remain on sale until June 5, good to return until June 15. Three Express trains, leave daily for Philadelphia. The first train leaves Union Depot at 3:s0 a. m., arriving in Philadelphia at 8:05 a. m. next miming: Pullman Palace sleeping car on this train without change. The second train leaves at 10:10 a.m., arriving In Philadelphia at 3:30 p. M. next day; Pullman Palace Drawing Room and sleeping car attached at Cambridge City, fiftythree miles east, running through without clianrte.
