LEXINGTON. (KV.i iijvr O.

RAISING THE WIND. A young man calling himself Williams, succeeded very h.md. somely a few days ago in t king in many of the good citizens of Lexington, by reciting a "round unvarnished tale,1' of Ins losses and niiufor. tunes in this wicked world. He passed currently among the rnerchants as one of the trade in tlis tress ; notwithstanding the times, the rate of exchange, &c. they unloosed their purse strings, and generously filled the pockets of their unfortunate brother, whose fine address, genteel appearance, and artful story excited the deepest sympathy. His story was brieflie h id been ruined by die treachery of a partner, who had eloped with a Ijrge sum ; he had pursued him closely from Canada to Wheeling, from Wheeling to Lexington, but unfortunately here found himself without the means of further pursuit. A few of the knowing ones suspected he was an irnposter, and requested him to "call again;'' others thought a well dressed young fellow not exactly an object of c tarity, and fhtly refused; but these were but few. He left tis on Monday last much richer than he came, though we are informed it has been ascertained, that he brought with him lots of bank notes, comprising a complete assortment of all sorts and sizes, from humble relief ticket (1p to what is technically called Exchange, U. S. notes etc among the latter probably some "good coiinti rfti s.'' He is abcut 5 feet 4 inches hb, ruddy

The counsel in favor of the Laws were Messrs. Barry, Bibb and Kotvan a. gain' t them. Messrs. Harrison, Breckenridge and R. Wickliffc. t may be concluded from the names of the counsel, that the discussion was most able. No opinion h expected from the court until their next term. Argus, p&anxiliw, (mo.) i,:ay, 13. received a letter, a few days since, from Cel. Martin Palmer, of Clay county, statintr that he ht

reived information that the Iaway Indians had lately robbed a house in a remote part of that county, and stolen five horses. The colonel requests us to state, that he is new raising three or four hundred men w?v.h the intention of marching to 'i'eir village, recovering the stolen property, and punishing the aggressors." He requests the aid of 100 mounted rillemen from Howard County, to meet him at the mouth of Grand Rivtr, in the 25th inst. .This expeditions if carried into effect, will we fear, be productive of serious consequences to our frontier inhabitants, by involving them in a vjvagewar.
