For true it is, that beauty soon becomes familiar to the lover; fades in his eye, and palls upon the sense. If we look over the circles in which we have been ac . iain. : 1, we rind manv matches tfi.it seemed to promise happiness hut in what proportion does the sceptre of domestic peace bear sway? with, even in many yea;! Bat it is too true n-t to be generally known, that, all the cunning and contrariness of the one, become arrayed against the other, in not a few instances. How cruel, how unkind does it appear to see a husband trifle with the feelings, or disturb the peace of the wife of his bosom the companion of his love? Or the troverness of the domestic circle to suffer her temper to arraign the motives of her husband, and to shew by the management of her tongue that he is despised in her eyes? while, the inlhnt d"dg''s of their love, reiterate the. sound' of ;vv.'cr, and learn to lisp the language of conjugal disquietuie, of disaffection and abuse! I know this is a delicate matter on which I have touched, but it is deeply interesting to the happiness of society.
