Hush, in London, he congratulates me on the success of the Greeks. They have been Victorious in every engagement both by sea and land. They now command the Dardanelles. By an account 1 lately readj 530 Greeks fought 8000. Turks at Thermopylae, from 8 o'clock in the morning, till six at night, leaving mole than 700 Turks dead on the field of battle, bosides wounded, and lost but very few themselves not 20. Thcic was a vote taken vesterday, In the house of UepresenUtives, hich regard as a favorable augury of the success of the bill for the continuation of the Cumberland Hoad. We refer to the vote, by a majority often, to fill the blank in the bill with the sum of one hundred & 50 thousand dollars. The house was full, and we consider the vote was almost decisive of the success of the bill. The vacant places and privileged seats of the hall were crowded with ladies, aud the gallery was filled with the lords of creation, attracted by the expectation, apparently, of hearing Mr. Clay speak on the ocoasion in which expectation, it will be seen they were not disappointed. Among the numerous Auditors that crowded the hall of the iouse of Representatives yesterday, to hear the speech of

Ih did not detain the house by any remarks upoil it, but) conceiviug its provi. sions uecesaary to just legislation on the subject, if the house Should adopt it, he would Vote for this bill : if not, he should vote against it. Mr. Jenniugs then proposed the following, which, after being once rejected, was finally adopted : ikBe it enacted ic. That the" President of the United States be, and he is hereby, authorized and empowered to appoint one impartial and judicious persou, not being a citizen of cither of the states through which the roads hereinafter mentioned shall pass, to be a commissioner , and, in case of the death, rtsinauoiij refusal to act, or disability of any such commissioner, to appoint another in his stead, who shall have power, according to the provisions of the. act, entitled "An act to authorize the ap. poiiitment of commissioners thereinafter mention !," approved .'ay Ijih, 1820, to complete the examination & survey heretofore commenced by virtue of the provisions of said act, and to extend the same to the permanent scat of government of the st.Ue of Viisouri; the said road to conform, hi all respects, to the provisions of ihe said recited act. except that it shall pass by the seats of gov. eminent of tSie states of Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois ; and the said commissioner, and Lite persons employed under him, shall receive the saui2 compensation for their services, respectively, as is allowed by the said recited act.
