The following members were appointed, in pursuance of a vote passed yesterday, as a select committee on the several resolutions proposing airicndments to the Constitution, in regard to the election of president and Vice President, viz : Messrs. Benton, Hayne, Dickerson, Holmes of Maine, and Kelly The resolution submitted yesterday bv Mr. Eaton, instructing an inquiry whether any and what amendments ar necessary to an act relative to the election ot president and vice president, and which declares the officer who shall act, in case those offices are both vacant, was again read and adopted. Mr. Noble presented ihe memorial of the Legislature of Indiana, stating the inconvenience to the citizens of that state, of certain parts of the judiciary system, and praying relief from congn ss Referred to the committee on the judiciary. Mr Rankin submitte d the following "Resolved, That the Secretary of the Treysuiy be directed to furnish this House a particular statement, containing the names of any Receivers of Public mon. y s in the laud offices of the United Slates, who may have fail cd to make their returns St payments of puolic money, according to law, or when required by the T reasury Department; the amount due from such Receivers, severally; the time When the same ocght to have been paid to the government? the measured adopted to punish any such delinquency, 8t coerce the payment; and the names of the places where such cfricts are SUiated. Mr. Owen submitted the following: Resolved, That the Secretary of the Treasury be directed to lay before this House a statement of the sums of money that have ben received in the Treasury from the twoper cent, funds, payable on the sales of public lands in the states of Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama, designating the yearly and total amount paid in from each of stid states; and how much money has been obtained by the general government fur the repayment of which these funds or any of them are pledged; als the yearly and total amount in each ot the above named states, aiisii-g from the three per cent funds, payable on the sale of public lands, and what sums, if any, have been advanced to each of said states of the three per cent, funds Wednesday, Dec 17. . tlushvllle, !n the county of Rush, and state of Indiana; Mr Wright submitted the following Resolved, That the committee on the Cumberland road be instructed to ii quire into the expediency of making an examination and survey of the route from Washington, in Pennsylvania, by Steubenville, in Ohio, and Wellsburgh, in Vtrginia,to ascertain if a less expensive and more eligible route can be found for the National Road from Washington to Colwm bus, the seat ot government of Ohio, than the one heretofore proposed; and also to inquire into the expediency of changing the location of said road: The question being taken on this resolution, it was decided in the negative.
