CI’KnsONAI,.—Vice 1’resldent Gibbons and Colonel Walsb.’cbief military organizer of tbe Fenian brotherhood, were in tbe city yesterday, on their way to Louisville, Kentucky. They will return next Thursday evening, when they hope to meet their friends and fellow countrymen In one of the public balls to expound the progress of Irish nationality. A Slight EttKOK.-Soine ol tbe Bepubllcan papers have wasted a groat deal oi ink in anathematizing the laws of Indiana because 11 a black preacher was lined $5,000 and sentenced to tbe penitentiary for two ye rs for marrying a black man to a white woman,” In this city. Nothing of tbe kind has ever been done here. Lewis Washington, a negro, received that sentence for marrying a white woman, but the preacher who tied the knot, although Indicted, has never been tried. We do not know that tbls mistake will make any difference to tbe aforesaid papers, but It does make a great deal of difference to the preacher. A Handsome Tribute.—Dr. H. F. Barnes received, on Saturday, by express from Riobmand, Virginia, an elegant tribute to hts professional skill and personal friendship. Rev. J. Wechsler, who, lor several years was the Jewish Rabbi in this city, forwarded to Dr. Barnes, an ebony wood, solid gold-beaded cane, as an evidence of his appreciation ol the valuable medical services of the Dictor, bis kindness of heart, and bis many excellent qualities. It appears that Dr. liarnes, for several years, was tbe family physician of Mr. Wechsler, and, as such, was assiduous In his atteutions, and saved hts boy from a hip disease which, at one time, threatened to be serious. We are happy to notice these evidences of professional and personal regard,as they demonstrate most conclusively that a touch of human nature makes the whole world akin. New York Life Insurance Company.— We publish In our advertising columns a very gratifying exhibit of tbls company’s affairs. During tbe year It has Issued 6,606 new polletes, Insuring $22,641,040, and has received from premiums and Interest $6,550,266 OK. It has also paid losses by death to the amount of $600,260; but this sum, large as It Is, exceeds by only a very little tho Interest the company has received on its Investments, thus leaving almost untouched tho nearly $3,000,000 it has realized during the year from premiums. The company has now an accumulated capital of more then $0,000,000-an Increase over last year of about $2,000,000—and a divisible surplus, after providing for the reinsurance of all risks and the payment of all llabllliles, of $1,642,426 40. The friends of this old and popular company may be well pleased with Tils result. Mr. J. J. Parsons, No. II, £ou h Meridian street, Is tbe local agent for this cliy, A Small Impediment to Marriage.—a gentleman from Cincinnati Visited Our city Saturday for the same purpose u^hich luduci a many gentlemen to come here, viz.: to get married. At tbe appointed hour Saturday night, the friends of the expectant bride ami groom arrived to wltne-s the ceremony, and the couple took their place before the minister to undergo the divad ordeal, looked forward to for so long. Just belorecommencing the ceremony, the minister asked to see the necessary license, and upon its being produced an unfortunate omission was discovered—tbe County Clerk had neglected to sign it. Of course there was “hurrying to and fro.” The friends In many words expressed their astonishment, tbe bride and her attendants vanished, end the groom seized his hat and rushed to the Clerk’s office, where, fortunately flndtng Dan Orcentleld, the proper signature was affixed, and In a short time the now smiling parties resumed their position before the minister and “the twain were made one flesh." Moral. When you are going to g«t married, always see that the license Is signed. g^Meteorologlcal reports for the Indiana polls Academy of Medicine, by W. J. Klstun, M. [FROM SUNDAY’S ISSUE ] DElzAWAMB COUNTY REPUBLICAN CONVENTION. CAPTAIN KILGORES BOMBSHELL. A Trn®«iTC«®» UPROAH.

THE CAPTA O H E D” AND Yesterday wain great day In Munclo. The patriots ot Delaware county, with a wholesome eense of the weighty responsibilities resting upon tbem,[ assembled In Walling’s Hall, for the purpose oi appointing delegates to the Republican State Convention, and to assist in saving, proserving, and pickling our glorious country In the Impending crisis, by the fulmlnatlon if the usual sonorous “whereasee” and ‘resolved.” All day ibe glorious banner of freedom (to tho nig.) proudly floated from a front window of Weiling’s Hatl, (used at intervals as a concert ball, school house and theater,) and nthslf past twelve a brass band appeared on the balcony, and poured forth on tho assembled and assembling patriots, strains of dulcet sweetness. Anxious to get a good seat wc walked over. Tho Ccnvenllon, judging from the crowd, was sitting on the ground floor, where the courteous Mr. Walling slaked the patriotic thirst of the crowd, with numerous gallons of a native beverage prepared by Mr. Thomas Proud. We learned, however, that tho lower room was merely an ante-room, and that the Convention would be held above. About one o’clock, the hall having pretty well filled up with anxious patnots, Jir. W. B. Klein, chairman of the county central committee, called tho meeting to order. David F. Haines, N. F. Ethel, were appointed temporary chairman and secretary, which appointments were immediately made permanent on the suggestion of a patriot whose head Is round, “to save time.” Ur. Haines presumed the convention knew whs’. It had *0 do, and advised the delegates to "bile in” without any preliminary nonsense. Colonel Tombrady, au active patriot, w bo Is cultivating luxuriant whiskers at the expense of a very moderate allowance of bralns, movcd the appointment of a committee of one from each township to draft and report tho resolutions quietly reposing in the breast pocket of his overcoat. Carried; and tbe chairman appointed James W. Heath, of Salem township; William Lewis, of Washington; Isaac Stout,of Harrison; Reuben Marshall, of Perry; William J. Moore, of Liberty; B. F. Smith, of Niles; W. S. Brundage. of Mt. Pleasant; Colonel Tombrady, 8. W. Harlan, and Allen Haines, of Center; Liberty Uwln, of Union; Kit Smith, of Delaware, and Jasper Worth, of Hamilton, as said committee. Tbe following patriots were appointed members of the county central eommlUei : Harrison Township—Z-nb Leivcllen. Delaware Township—Horatio Lockhait and Rufus Taylor. Center Town.hip—T. J. Bradv, S. If. wa* frequently Interrupted by a storm of groans, hisses, -bouts of traitor and bull like bellowIngs. He was “bhoob’d’’ terribly, but in mlully held his own until ho had Unlshcd. For a time it seemed as if pamllmonium h id broken loosoin Munclo. and the lusty patriots did some hollowing which would have reflected credit on a herd of wild buffaloes. Mr. Klein got up nod moved that Captain Kilgore's resolutions be laid on the table, and that ho be requested to furnish a copy to M*Mr"- Pendleton, Edgerton, Hendricks and Jell Davis. This exquisite bit of humor on the part of Mr. Klein set the patriots to roaring again, and the cheers were loud and car-

splltUng.

Mr. Kilgore »a1d that there wero “dUlnvid" men on the floor atihat time, who had bei n nc-nrer Jeff Dnvls within the past six ye.r* than ever Mr. Klein was,or than anv | o-ver In Uaaven or earth could ever take bl« cowardly carcass. This Was rathrr a dampir on poor Klein, whose military history in still fresh In the memory of Munele. That gentleman was tho valiant Captain of a company of horso guards, during the late rebellion. “ Business” would not admit of his entering tbe army propi r, hut such was his tblrst for the blood of rebels that he raised a company of the H. G., drilled them day ami night through tbe streets ol Munclo. and was a veritable Fee-faw-fum, always smelling tho blood of a rebel, and foaming at tbe mouth with tho eagerness of his desire to get at ’em. But when Morgan took his little trip through Indiana, the valiant Captain was taken with a sudden looseness in the bowels, and had to resign. Weeping bitter tears at tbe cruel fate which prevented him from following his command to glory or the grave, he turned the company over to his First Lloutenant, J. H. Welser, an Infernal copperhead, who took It to “ the front.” So much for Kltls.

Judge Buckles buckled In, and aald tha reaolutiona of Mr. Kilgore were thrown In aa a firebrand, to areata dlasenaloni In the camp o? the salnta. They were drawn with a view to mislead the patriots. He was sorry that his young Mend had learned coppcrbeadism ■6 rapidly. Captain Kllgore’a resolutions were then tabled, with a long drawn and thundering v aye.” Swelling the volume of stund welling up irons patriotic entrails, wo detected the sonorous voice of Colonel Tombrady. Then ensued about an hour’s squabbling about the manner In which the primary elections should be held—whether or not the votes of townships for congressmen should tell In the congressional convention, or whether the delegates should vote the county as a unit, according to the majority of primary votes. The following delegates to the Slate convention were appointed : Salem Township—Thomas W. Tuttlo and James W. Heath. Mount Pleasant—J. II. Koontz and W. S. Brundage. Harrison Township — John Parker and James Snodgrass. Washington Township—David Thompson. Monroe Township—J, A. Tomlinson and Jeremiah West. Center Township—J. 8. Buckles, T. J. Brady, U. W. Sptlker, C. E. Shipley, William Brotherton and N. Etbell. Hamilton Township—John Worth. Union TownshIp-IJherty Ginn. Perry Township—Michael Duncan and S. Orr. Delaware Township—Horatio Lockhart. Niles Township—Henry Shearon. Judge Sample moved in addition that every loyal Union man bo considered a delegate. Unanimously and thunderously adopted. A collection being here proposed, to defray expenses of tho ball, tho overplus, If sny, to be expended In tho purchase of document*, a general stampede of patriots ensued. Tbe doors wore closed, however, and the collectors succeeded In extracting seven dollars and thirty cents from tbe pstrtotlc wallets. Judge Buckle*, candidate for Congress, with abetter chance of being struck by lightning than of getting the nomination, was then called on for a speech. A* tbe patriots were rapidly evacuating tbe hall, the judge was very brief in bis remarks, promising, at some future time, to orate more at length. And so endeth tbe chapter. Tbe extreme radicals had everything their own way. Many present sympathized with Kilgore, but were not sufficiently numerous to face the music.
