J. D. Howland, Clerk. Cary’s Patent Earth Borer.—This Invention exhibited to os a simple and most efficient apparatus for boring holes for fence posts, telegraph poles, wells, driving pipe for oil wells, etc. It is the most perfsot borer that we have ever seen and tbe rapid manner it operates is trulv astonishing. By experiment it has been and can be shown that it will bore an eight inch hole, three feet in leea than three minutes and does the work perfectly. It bae bored a similar sized bole thirteen and a half feet in twenty-five minutes and two men lifted seven and a half feet of earth and water at one lift. Cary’s borer can be used by band or machinery, and It la equally efficient on a large scale as when operated by hand for post holes. The invention la one ef great value for the purposes to which it is applied—in fact it is an Ingenious, efficient and simple labor saving machine- «*—«ci Cary, the patentee, Uvea at centerville, Louisiana, to whom communications may be addressed in reference to the borer; or bis agent, C. The subject of the lecture will be the Roman Question, or the Bights, Possessions and “Pretentions” of the Holy See. With such a lecturer and such a subject the house ought to be, as we have no doubt it will be, literally packed. The subject of the lecture is one which at this time Is particularly interesting, and especially so to the Catholic portion of the community. We feel as though we can not say anything of the Archbishop that will add to hU already great reputatlon. He Is the oldest Bishop in the United States, and was, we believe, first brought before the public in his celebrated debate with the Rev. Alexander Campbell, in 1836. The doors will be open at seven o’clock, and the lecture will begin at a quarter before eight. Tickets for reserved seats for sale at Benham’s music store. Go early if you expect to get

The audience, notwithstanding the a iture of the weather, was quite large, and tie performance was one which fully repaid f *r the trouble of going out even on an inclement night. Tbe entertainment consisted of Tom Taylor’s play of Retribution, in which Mlsa Kate Fletcher and Mias Preston, of the Metropolitan, who bad kindly volunteered, assumed the leading female characters. Mr. Lyons personated Count Priula, and was frequently loudly applauded. The other characters were produced In a manner evlndng careful study and reflecting credit upon the performers. After the theatrical entertainment came shop, which waa participated in until a late hour by many of the ladiea and
gentlemen.

OR. TOBIAS VENETIAN LINIMENT.
A. HUMBUO. How often we bear this expression from persons reading advertisements of Patent Medicines, and in niaecases out of tan they may be right. It is over nineteen years since I introduced my medicine, the VKNETTIaN LINIMENT, to the public. I bag. no money to to ate-mtirt It, so I left it for sale with a few druggists and storekeepers through a sma l section of the country, many taking ic with great reluctance; but I told them to lei any one have it, and if it did not do all 1 stated on my pamehlct, no one need pav for it. In some stores two or three bottle^ were-takea on trial by**»on*preee*. :Lwtthyjaftap thought crazy, and th«t Wofcld UfeTne last they would see of me. But I knew my medicine was no humbug In about two months I began to receive orders for more Liniment, some calling It my valuable Liniment, who had refused to sign a receipt whan T left it at their^tore. Now my sales are mi lions of bottles yearly, and all for cash. 1 warran> it superior to any other medicine fur the core of Cronp, Diarrhea, Dysentery, Colic, Vomiting, Spasms and Sea Sickness, as an internal remedy It is perfectly innocent to take internally—see oath 'accompanying each buttle—and externally tor Chronic Rheumatism,Headache.
