The Evnaavllle (J*
eitiele la the Veleptrsdeo Repul
strongly recommending Wiu.. CrW»*CK ns the rndlen! candidate for OoTeraor, remarks: ••By the way we will My that our Inform v tton from Indianapolis, trustworthy and credible, is to the effect that the peculiar partisans of Governor Morton are the bitter and unrelenting enemies of Governor Baker s nomination, and are moving heaven and earth to defeat Mm. The reason Is creditable to Governor Baker. Though a bitter partlMn, Governor Baker Is a gentleman, and won’t allow the filthy crew that hovered around Morton like vultures over the carcase of a dead horse, to thrust themselve* upon him and their hands Into the State treasury. We desire to see Governor Baker receive the rfidicm nomination for Governor, for If such f thing is possible as the aueeess of the radical ticket In Indiana next yrar, in eeee ef Me weetlon the State would have In the gubernatorial < hair a bitter partisan, It Is true, but nevertheless a gentleman. But wo rather guess the radical nomination tor Governor In isos will
he an empty honor.”
Those who know Governor Bakkr person ally will cheerfully endorse all that tho Courier says In regard to his private worth and gentlemanly qualities. It Is true that what Is known as the State House clique have no especial affection for the acting Governor of Indiana. Tpon his assuming the duties of Governor nr? interim, when Morton was on his European tour, Governor Bakcr Immediately commenced tho work of retrenchment In tho executive chamber, and that operation c utsed a distrust around the State Mouse in regard to his appreciation of tho necessities of tho radicals who, under his predecessor, had been enjoying fat pickings off the public treasury for party services. Gov-—-- ***'■'' had not time to carry out hts proposed reform before the return of Morton, an event which caused great Joy among the almost decapitated faithful. Governor Bakru's economical Ideas were reversed, and the clique were retained as leeches upon the treasury, for partisan work. Morton had no scruples in regard to putting his hand Into the public treasury to advance the interests of hie party. (Dvernor Baker may be educated up to that stand point—he may be demoralized by hts rotten radical surroundings, but thus far, in the discharge of his official duties, he has had a regard for the public interests as well as those ^f his party. If we we to have a radical Governor elected in ISOS, we can say that Governor Baker Is a vast Improvement, morally and socially, upon
the late soldier’s friend.
A Peckenlfflnn SermonThe Journal, following the lead of that other whtted sepuchre, the Cincinnati Gazelle, and following it so closely that It copies almost the exact language of the latter, Indulges in a good deal of spurious Indignation and cheap virtue over the recent prize fight between Jones and McCooIe. The sermon preached by the Geuette, and stolen by the Journal, comes with a bad grace from papers which sent spe dal reporters to writeup the fight, and published extras in order to spread tho result before their readers at the earliest possible moment. It will probably be interesting to our readers to compare extracts from the Journal’s sermon and its special telegraphic report of the fight. Eor Instance the following:
Journal Editorial.
On Friday the “roughs’’ began to arrive in that city from all parts of tho country, and by Saturday morning the city was literally pack*ed with gamblers, thieves, pimps and the lowest dregs of humanity. Journal’s Special Telegram. A large, and what Is stranffo, a well regulated crowd, uttondod the great fight for tho championship of heavy wdg hts.
Journal Editorial.
The light camo off in accordance with the programme, and “the first knock down,” “ the first blood,” etc., were attended with the usual cheers, etc., etc., from tho low Hung and degraded wro tches present.
Journal Telegram.
Now commenced the system so universally despised, called "dropping,” by whfrh we remember Barney Aaron won tho championship of the light weights.
Journal Editorial.
No tlTort was made to prevent It; upon tho contrary, tho pollen oflieers were the best posted men that could be found, and were almost universally surrounded by crowds of degraded and beastly wretches who were afraid they would miss some gossip or "point” In the programme.
Journal Telegram.
With might, grace nml irood aim another knock down occurred during the game In fa-
vor of McGoolo,
It will not be necessary to point ostt the difference in tho tone of tho above extracts. While that of the editorial is sternly indignant, awfully decent and rigidly virtuous, tho •peclal report enters with enthusiastic al>an don into the spirit of tho fight, and talks learnedly of prize ring tactics. Tho miserable syitem of "dropping” by which "Barney Aaron won the championship of the light weights,” is severely rebuked. This pious Sunday school sheet want* all brufeers who enter the ring to stand up like men and take their medicine, and not seek to avoid, by "dropping” the terrific blows which smash
bom* and break riba.
It alio admiringly notes the "might, grace and good aim” with which one of the brulsers shoot* a knock-down blow into the ribs of hie opponent. It hastens to contribute to “the demoralization of aociety” by spreading before 1M readers, In the form of an extra, the vile detail* of the brutal affair, and then seeke to atone for its sin by a half column of hypocritical cant. The Journal has two sides— its Sunday side, in which prize fighting is virtuously condemned and a money-making side, which inues an extra, publishing full details of tho offatr, for the satisfaction of its "brute’ patrons. It never —MM— greater industry or displayed mete eloquence in acquainting ita readers with the detail* of a great battle, preaandlng He Sunday and sepulchral tide, It dismally groans out Its abhorrence of prize fighting. It deplores the beastly spec taele of two athletic men treating each other's face* to a jelly and at the same time, In n truly GhrMlau like spirit regrete that McCoolo did not kill Jones, and that Jones’ backer did not Uheot MoGooie, so that the law might hang Janet' becesr, According 4dGp«.aakMnortiHy ethics, three murders would be much bet-
ter than an assault and buttery.
This damnable hypocrisy is about played out. If the Journal proprietors agree with the aentlment of the editorial from which w# have quoted, then they me guilty, la puMiskr lug their elaborated account of for prize fight, of the the vilest and moat disgraceful pauder Ing to depraved appetite, for the purpose of meklng monev-Just such pandering ee would publish obueeue beeics, for tbs sate of money, provided It could be done without detection.

On motion of N. T. Catterlin, the convention tendered Senator Hendricks a vote of thanks lor his able and patriotic speech, rad after giving three cheers for the Union, tbe Constitution and the Democratic ticket, the proceedings of this convention wero ordered published in the Indianapolis Herald, and the Frankfort Crescent, when the meeting adjourned sine die. Wc have scon no more grave and startling issues made in politics than that by Senator Wado in Lis recent frantic and blasphemous
speech at Portsmouth, Ohio. Ho said:
Compare negro voting Tennessee with rebel cursed Kentucky. In the latter they have elected a full ticket of traitors to Congress, aad they come up rad demand seats there, but not euo d*W1T of them will ever get a seat there. | Cheers, and repeated cries of " Good.”] You may call It despotism, but what sort of despotism is it to exclude from tbe Government men who openly tried to destroy It! According to Senator Wade, Kentucky Is rebel because her people would not elect radicals to Congress. Therefore, tbe men who wero fimcntly elected to Congress are rebels, and ai^b lie excluded from their seats. This would put that great State, which seat far more native Union soldiers to the war than Massachusetts, In the same situation ae wore the ten rebel States before Congress established
military despotism over them.
Mr. Wade, to be consistent, must apply tho same rule to tbe other border Statee. like DelMarTland, We*t>Virginia, anteperbaps rl. The report is going tbe round* ef

SOLD ONLY BY I. Ti. FlfcAlVIiEiVI. ThcMorDing Glory Sieve TYRPRBSKNTRD by the above cut, I have sold Xli for the past four yean to my entire satisfaction, in numbers beyond my expectation. I have certificates from the best citizens of Indianapolis, which I shall publish from time to time, recommend ng the Morning Glory Stoves, Doable Hesten and Hot Air Furnaces, In the highest unqualified terms. THE MORNING GLORY DOUBLE HEATER lasimply a stove surrounded.by a covering, forming a chamber through which cold air passes to be heated by the stoves thus encased, and being set in a parlor or basement room, warms such room by direct radiation; rad with a hot air pipe leading to a register In ra adioining room, or to the floor above, warms them also. U Is the only Doable Heating Stove that can take Its cold air to be heated from outside the room where situated, hence the name—Double Heater or Parlor Furnace. Tfee Dlermlmg Clary He* Air Partable Fmrmaee Is the most powerful heater, for the amount of coal consumed, before the public. In construction they are simple, made entirely of cast iron, and fitted with care; are selfclean In* and will burn the entire season without rekindling. I am authorized to set these Furnaces on trial, and guarantee them to give entire satisfaction. i. t,.
